Help on my Iron Man Helmet?

OK so I recently finished pepping an Iron Man helmet. The hole is to small for my ears/head to fit through, but my head can fit. I'll have to stretch out the helmet though, but how will i do it when it's hardened? So my real question is, how would I make it wearable?

I was thinking of cutting the back piece of the helmet and put rare earth magnets to snap it together.
Some things i think off:
Will the magnets hold the back?
How will I make it hinged so it'll be sort of like a door?
When or how should I cut the back? While resined? While fiberglassed?
Should I even do it?

Any ideas? :confused

You could do a few things.

1) Wait until it's resined. This way, it will stay in the same form and you know it will fit back together. Don't use door hinges or anything of that sort. It would be better to use a 'soft hinge' like a piece of nylon strap that is attached to both pieces. Magnets or velcro would work to hold it back in place. Problem with velcro is if it comes off as your wearing it...it'll look sloppy.

2) Same process, but elastic instead of velcro or magnets.

3) Use the soft hinge, then use the plastic buckles (parachute buckle, nylon buckle, etc.) or strap adjusters and then just reach up and pull it tight.

i use rare earth magnets for my iron man helmet. Only I have them in the chin and the faceplate, that way its easier for me to put the helmet on cos i can see what I am doing.

the magnets will certainly hold the back. infact they might be to strong. i use 5mmx5mmx2mm rare earth magnets and i have to put them 2mm by 5mm sides towards each other, otherwise it is impossible to pull them appart without braking he helmet. also use something like hot plastic glue to hold the magnets ni the helmet, they are strong.

i wouldnt advise to cut the back but if you want to:

its is the hardest to cut the back after it has been fiberglassed but that way its shape will stay the same. if u cut the back off and then fiberglass it chances are that it will be diformed. even a small chnage will ruin it.

dont use door-like hinges. i cant describe how the right hinge would look but you can easily find them if you search youtube :)

if the helmet doesnt fit you when its in paper form (ie you have to strech it sideways a bit) you wont be able to put it on after it will be hardened. you need to find something the size of your head, put it into the helmet and then harden it. that way the helmet will harden while being a bit stretched :)

hope this helps!

From my experience (I've made a few ;) )
After you harden and shape the helmet cut the back bottom piece, do not cut the chin it will eventually warp on you regadless of how you brace it. With the faceplate unattached you end up with zero support in the front section. Make it like this, best way to go. ;)
