I’m working on a niche costume from Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indy’s outfit wile in the map room. That’s the one where he is wearing the robe and turban disguise. After a lot of watching the map room scene and YouTube videos on how to tie a turban I was able to figure out how he had his turban tied.
While watching the map room scene and the few minutes before and after I noticed something. The turban is identical everytime. Considering the outside shots were on location in Tunis and the map room and tent scenes were shot at pinewood I find it very hard to believe that they were able to tie it exactly the same each time. Also in two spots the fabric is obviously stitched or pinned in place. Probably to keep the fabric from falling in front of his face when he bent over. Plus in spots it looks more like there is filler material under the fabric to make it look full without the weight of many, many feet of fabric.
So, does anyone have any idea of how to do this? Turn a turban into a hat, if that’s the right way to phrase it, or making the turban permanent?
