Help IDing a Maul

I just picked up a Maul from someone in the Junkyard. I owned an MR at one time, but I'm finding that I love this one more than the MR. There's just something about it that looks more like what I'd expect Maul to use.

I'm wondering if someone could ID the maker though. If I remember right, the person I bought it from wasn't sure who made it.

It had resin LEDs and bezels and a fake (non-accurate) covertec knob. I've already replaced both with accurate LEDs/bezels and covertec in the pictures below. It also splits in the middle.

Any help would be appreciated.

Wow...well, I'm honestly not sure. It looks like it only has 8 emitter fins, is that right? If that's the case, it's quite old. We worked out the '10 fins' reasonably early on.

However enough of the other details are correct to be odd. Maybe an early EDC? I honestly don't recognise it, and I know a lot of the Mauls that were out there.

Yep, there are 8 fins.

I replaced the o-rings as well (though I need to get thicker ones) because the original ones were dried and cracking. That could indicate it being fairly old.

Well the 10 fins were known about since sometime in 2000. So unless someone just missed it, it's probably from around then. There were only a handful of people making sabers back then, and most of the Mauls were pretty wildly wrong. Other than the emitter ends and the buttons, that one doesn't look at all bad.

Hey Jeff,

I'm assuming that's the Maul I sold you, as it looks pretty familiar. I dug through all the old PM's and email's I could find (I even pulled out the old computer), and the only thing I came across is that the guy I bought it from referred to it as a "Mega Maul." I think that was just his nickname for it, as it's a bit bigger than MR's, but perhaps that'll jog someone's memory.

As for the grips, the sad thing is I already replaced those once myself. :eek Those things sure dry out in a hurry. :wacko

Yep, that's yours Eric. Thanks for the info.

Hez, here is what was used for a Covertec originally. I've replaced it with a real one already, but maybe someone was using this at one point in time.
