Holy Smokes, that's amazing! I love the expression and that slight lean. I think someone's about to get hurt.

Re: Hellboy Silcone Bust WIP

I'm sorry, did you say you started sculpting today? OMG that is unreal. It looks awesome.

I think what you meant to say is that you just started sculpting THIS piece today, not that this is the first time you have ever attempted to sculpt something, am I correct?

Re: Hellboy Silcone Bust WIP

Fettster YOU ROCK! That is simply stunning work my friend.

Re: Hellboy Silcone Bust WIP

For one day's work, that's pretty kickass. :cool

As for feedback, it looks like the mouth placment is a little low. HB's nose-to-lip proportion should be about 5/4 of his lip-to-chin; your first draft looks to be about the reverse of that.

Re: Hellboy Silcone Bust WIP

I do agree about the upper lip but thats killer work bro! Very impressive for one days work :thumbsup Thats going to be a great piece when finished.

Re: Hellboy Silcone Bust WIP

absolutely insane, one days work and i would consider that finished already.

Re: Hellboy Silcone Bust WIP

One day? That's insane! Love that this piece includes the top part of the torso.

Re: Hellboy Silcone Bust WIP

I agree with everyone. for just one day at it, it's coming quick. But.. I would have recommended you refine, make all the changes you can on your own, and when you get to a point to where you think you can't make it any better on your own, then post it asking for critiques. Cause' I'm betting that of this writing you already know that the eyebrows are too heavy, the nose may be a tad too short, and the distance from the bottom of the nose to the upper lip too long. I'm getting this from just looking at the original pics you have sitting behind it. I also noticed that there should be more mass behind each horn. i.e. more scull. It looks like his head is a bit pointed. in general, be careful not to overdo some of the indentions. like skin folds, I like the pose. especially the mouth pose.
I also noticed you have the ears tilted back quite a bit. I'd have to see a clean side shot to be sure, but possibly they may be tilted too much.
I've noticed in the last years that there's a big trend in film creatures to make everything very symetrical. almost book matched. Not sure but I think they did that with hellboy. I've even heard stories about how they used calipers on sculpts like a.v.p. and everything is very cleanly done. Nice even skin pores, realistic, but very clean, and even. That doesn't mean mechanical.

Re: Hellboy Silcone Bust WIP

I love it. I think ya nailed it and I'm sure if you make any changes it will just make this piece better. Bravo.

Re: Hellboy Silcone Bust WIP

Thats really good Richard... I know this is still a WIP but the only thing I'm seeing wrong is the eyes... they seem to big.

It might be that the rest of the face around the eyes is to small and you'll need to lengthen out the whole face significantly to get the proportions right or just make the eyes a lot smaller. I reckon if it is just the eyeballs being to big you could angle the lower eyelids up at the sides and go from there and push them in closer together...

Check out how small and close together Ron Perlmans eyes really are. His eyes really are an unusual shape as is the rest of his face but they are very close set.

I think the nose slopes too much. It seams like it should be flatter to the face. I don't see a good profile shot amongst your reference there. Do you have one. One good trick is to get as square on a profile shot as you can get and then cut it out. You can hold up the negative profile to see if everything is in the right plane. Doesn't matter if it's not perfectly to size, just stand back a bit and hold it up between you and the sculpt.

Better hurry up and finish - you've got work to do!!!! :)

Looking really good. I agree with most of the notes above, but for a day's work, it's a great start and the forms all look nice... once you make your tweaks this is gonna be fab!

Great advise from Neill and something i employ in my own portriat work :thumbsup

Heres some behind the scenes stuff I did on the Maul sculpt a couple of years ago.
