Sammael, the Desolate One, Son of Nergal...
Here's a quick paper prop I made. It' a weathered copy of the woodcut from Hellboy: The Art of the Movie.
I think it's a woodcut of Sammael, but it's different to the one used in the museum scenes in the film.
I scanned the image from the book, then cleaned it up (it was shown on some weathered parchment, but I just needed the black and white image).
I then weathered some heavier weight printer paper, using Yellow Ochre watercolour scattered with salt.
Once this had dried, I brushed off the salt and printed my image onto the paper. I went over the sections that were meant to be highlighted in red.
To finish the layers of weathering, I repeatedly folded the page, went over with fine grit sandpaper, and generally gave it some rough handling.
And here's the clean version in case anyone wants to print it on their own paper!
