Heavenly Sword (aka Nariko's Sword) - Finally finished

Re: Heavenly Sword

Ahh the old Minecraft ate my time huh? ;p
It's looking great... unsurprisingly. To be honest I'm a little stunned this thread isn't more busy. Beautiful work.

Re: Heavenly Sword (aka Nariko's Sword)

I changed the thread title, as a quick Google search showed me that most people refer to it as Nariko's Sword

Anyway, home stretch!

Tidying and painting tomorrow weather permitting

Re: Heavenly Sword (aka Nariko's Sword)

That is some really great engraving detail you're putting into everything! Awesome work man!

Re: Heavenly Sword (aka Nariko's Sword)

What (very) little time I've had over the last week and a bit has gone into this. I finished the engraving and finally replaced the tip on the second blade.

Painted the silver base coats, although for some reason some sections of the MDF didn't seal properly, so they need fixed.

Still not 100% convinced about the darker areas, I even filled some of the red to see if that made the difference. They're not bad and still need some highlighting but I don't know, maybe it's just me. I know I asked before, but if anyone else has any ideas please chime in, there's some references further up the thread.

These are just for anyone like me, who wants an idea of what it'll look like finished

Re: Heavenly Sword (aka Nariko's Sword)

Bit of weathering and I can finally call this done, gaining quite a bit of room in my workspace at the same time

One image to reduce peeking! :D Full photoset to follow when done

The weight has been lifted, I've finally completed a Heavenly Sword :) Counting the discarded attempts, this will be number 7, which I think will be my lucky number from this moment forward.

Frankly, it has taken me waaaay too long to complete just this attempt, about 10 months by my estimate. Distractions and just simply not wanting to look at it for weeks on end were the main offenders, but it's done now and I'm very happy

Would Ninja Theory be proud of my effort to turn their pixels into tangible materials? Probably not, but the universe they created stuck with me and from the moment I first set eyes on that sword, I had to build it.

...and now I have to turn it over to my friend. I hope he'll have as much joy owning it as I did seeing it come together.

Definitely. Like the game the sword is from, this too is a work of art. So glad I remembered to come back and check this thread, if a little later than I realized.
Brilliant work.

this is incredible work, well done! deserves more views ;)
Thank you both very much. My friend was ecstatic too, even though the perfectionist part of my brain spotted multiple bits that I wasn't happy with as I handed it over :)

As for views, I was never really expecting this to be popular. The game very much slipped under the radar, even though it has a strong core following

Most definitely. Your friend got an awesome gift.

Try not to beat yourself up too much about spotting flaws. I do it with everything I make. Someone could be in the middle of complimenting my work and all I can think is "Yeah... but I screwed up here, here, and here. And, oh my god, there's another one over here."

So what did the final weight come in at? This thing looks like a beast.

i for one loved the voice acting - andy serkis was fantastic!
Yeah, Serkis was amazing in it. For quite a while I actually thought he did the voice of Kai as well, she sounds very like a female version of his Gollum voice

Most definitely. Your friend got an awesome gift.

Sweet, at least I'm not the only one who does that :)

I never actually weighed it accurately, but I would estimate somewhere around 5kgs

EDIT: Better late than never, I got it weighed. Slightly off, it came in at 3.1kgs

I have a friend that has hard a pretty tough life and she had risen above those events and has since joined the military. I am very proud of everything she has accomplished in life. She has her heart set on making the heavenly sword for a prop for her Halloween costume. I would like to help but my experiences with construction are metal and wood. I am not sure metal will be practical, wood seems like there would be too much stress on the handle. Can you offer any advice on what materials to use and where might they be found?
