Head/face cast for Iron Man helmet

Hello everyone! I'm new here, and to prop making in general. I've looked and looked, but I can't find a guide on this. I was wondering if someone could give me a link to a guide on casting my whole head/face and all into a mold so I can make an Iron Man helmet (or attempt to make one at least. Lol). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Face/head mold for Iron Man helmet

Hello everyone! I'm new here, and I've been looking and looking, but I can't find a guide to make a full head/face mold to then make an Iron Man helmet. I can only find the front part of the face or making weird faces. If anyone knows of a guide, could you please link it?

Re: Face/head mold for Iron Man helmet

What you're looking to make is a life cast or life mask. There should be a lot of tutorials if you use those terms.

Nice to see someone actually sculpting an IM the good old-fashioned way.

Thank you so much! I figured it was the terms I was using. Might I also ask what other way is there to do it (I'm extremely new to all this)?

Re: Face/head mold for Iron Man helmet

A lot of people use Papakura; a method which uses software to 'unfold' a 3D model before printing out the paper parts and assembling them, then reinforcing it with epoxy. The technique takes hard work to do cleanly but allows you to use someone else's sculpt (which to me takes a lot of the fun out of a build!). Other people use a similar technique to make parts from soft foam. Making a clay sculpt on a life cast is the classic method, and one that relies on your own sculpting abilities as well as your casting and finishing skills.

I was actually going to use that, but I thought I would still need the correct size to make it. I'm really really new, so it's probably best for me to do it the easiest.

Are you certain you've looked?

Personally, this is a process I would NOT take lightly. You're going to need at least one or two other people to help the process along, and I'd want them to be people A) that I trust completely and B) that know what they're doing. I'm somewhat claustrophobic, though. It's the plaster bandage bit what scares the pants off of me.
