He-man cartoon sword... Why not

It is fun and mind raping at the same time! Im not sure if Im coming or going.
We are getting a lot closer now, I have cut a sample and I think the middle is a tad high, but it gives the sword some girth.
Opinions please! Sorry for the pics, I cut this in sample small and in blue board. IMG_2197.JPGIMG_2198.JPG

I love that you're doing this! It has been a project on my wishlist for some time. While your sword looks good overall, the top and bottom of the grip should be circular, not flat. They should be like half of a donut sitting on the top and bottom of the grip in your half sword. I don't think the middle is too high.

Like Daryl said he is fixing the the issue with the grip.
The problem is the CNC machine has limited design abilities as to how it will cut, It dosnt cut on a 5th axis. So it has looses some slight side detail.

Anyway this is what we decided on and where we are at with it. It has been cut and sent to Daryl.
Let us know what you think and hopefully he can clean up any small detail in post.

I would definitely be interested in this and skeletors sceptre if that guy ever finishes it on here. Must haves for anyone alive in the 80s

Ok I got the he man sword chuck In and I was afraid it would be to small but after swing it and comparing it to the original cartoon I think it size is dead on... See the pic...

I think it should be bigger as well. When scaling up a cartoon sword to real life size, the importance is to keep the proportions correct but that gives you significant freedom in size. When watching the cartoon, the sword's blade seems longer in certain scenes. I think a slightly longer blade (and therefore a proportially bigger hilt and handle) would be truer to a functional sword. Just my $0.02

I understand what you mean by more realistic and larger, however... When I made the heman film sword I made it more stream lined and battle ready and though most people liked it, they wanted it to be more film accurate, which I am working on, so from the several people who are confirmed to be buying a casting, they all want as screen accurate as possible... Smaller one handed with a longer blade. BUT I will take a few ideas on what everyone thinks before I start casting... We can make it larger and scale it up if that's what people want...

I think it looks spot on to a lot of the Filmation artwork in this thread. Now that I can see the size in relation to a person, I think it looks just right.

At the risk of getting ahead of things, I'm kind of hopeful that this pattern could someday be modified into the She-Ra sword too. But regardless, I'm watching this thread excitedly.

Even in this draft version, it's already a beautiful piece.

Here's some quick updates pics... I've been out of touch with family issues last few weeks so trying to catch up... I bought some wooden wheels from hobby lobby and cut em In half, I had to dremell out the parts on the handle to fit them.
So far I like the results, I'll use bondo for final Clean up..
I've been sanding everything clean and have been using krazy glue to make parts smoother..

We will have one of these in Chicago and will be taking orders on both the resin and metal swords. Like Daryl said 1/2 will be purple 1/2 will be silver as it was w the toy. The sword will be able to be ordered in all purple all silver or 1/2 n 1/2. This is a great project Im happy to be part of it.
