hcg pulse rifle counter problem

Any one had any problems with the led display on these? Ive always had a problem with the 5 displaying properly. Originally when i flicked the switch on the middle line would be dimmer than the rest of the display. within 20 seconds though it would be as bright as the rest of the display. Recently though when i turn it on this paticular line is always bright and the problem has now moved to a different line that makes up the 5. I've tried different batteries but this line is constantly dimmer than the rest. I dont think the problem is anything to do with the contacts as the rest of the display is fine. Have i just ended up with a dodgy led? can it be fixed?

Just noticed one for sale on ebay with a similiar problem.
Any one else out there having trouble with the LED?

That's mine. God knows what it is though. I find that after a minute - some times two, it's fine. I also tried new batteries etc but had no luck. A friend of mine who is and electrician/engineer seems to think it could be a simple loose connection, but I don't want to risk opening the bad boy up! Such as shame. :cry

The problem seems to be with the contacts used for the electrical connection. If you look closely I would bet the springs in the mag base are not symmetrical in length. Also, if you examine the metal contacts in the shroud, I would bet they are spattered with paint over spray. Carefully clean the contacts in the shrouds with some paint thinner on a q-tip. See if that helps. If you still have the problem, try carefully stretching the shorter of the two springs in the mag base. I performed the above steps on a friends HCG pulse rifle and the counter has worked perfectly since. The quality control on the HCG pulse rifles are terrible but with a little TLC they will display very nicely.

Mine has always read 35 and not 95. It wasnt worth the time and effort to return it and go through all that BS so I live with it. I'm just happy there is no droop on mine.
