Hasegawa WTF? or question about VW Beetle kits

so I buy a VW Beetle kit. I need the engine for another project I'm working on... and just the engine.

I win the auction pay for it, and it arrives today.... and I open the box to find... there's no engine in the kit. Not as in, it was there but removed. As in, the kit was designed with no motor. Who does that? I've never seen a car model, and especially one with that much detail, that didn't have an engine.

so my question is obvious, now that I need to buy another kit. Who made a VW Beetle kit with an engine that I can take out of it? Or does anyone know of an aftermarket place that sells just the VW Engine?

Thanks

The Tmiya one is AWESOME. Every bolt is there . . .
Sorry you got 'gipped' Hasegwa been actin' weird lately!

Here's the 36hp motor out of my 58 Ghia coupe. Sorry ,its not for sale and will not fit into your ghia.

But if you PM me, I will look at the kits I have to see if there is an engine that can be spared .

Hello again,
I took a pic of the engine parts from the Love Bug to show you what is there.
Hope this helps, Petseal

Thanks very much for that

looks like the transmission is molded right onto it
hoping to find one that's either separate, or at least easy to remove

well apparently tracking down a tamiya kit (actually any beetle kit) is going to be a bigger pain then I expected.... seeing as they all appear to be OOP at the moment. Spent the day hitting the local hobby shops.

GRRRRRR

just once I'd like a project not hit a wall 2/3 of the way through

you'd figure the most popular selling car in history would be easier to find a kit of

off to ebay I go...

I'm shocked! I would have expected an engine, for sure.
There have been many. many models of bugs and beetles done.
What scale are you looking for? Do you need the whole motor or just a part?

1/24 but 1/25 would work too scale is what I'm looking for,
and I need the whole motor

I've built more than a few model 1/24 autos and many without engines in the kit. I'm trying to build a model of my dad's old 2nd gen Prelude and sure enough the kit is completely decked out with a full engine bay working flip up lights... etc. But you can't get a full engine bay in the 4th gen, even if Aoshima made a gorgeous working 4ws kit with photo-etched emblems. Anyway, I'm sure the pops will love his... but it is gonna take a while.:lol

Back on topic. My local hobby shop had a few of those revell bugs... let me know if you don't find what you're looking for and I'll have another excuse to go back.

A Very Big Public Thank You to snowshoe archangel for sending a spare VW motor my way!

It's pretty much exactly what I needed!

so one more time THANK YOU!

please let me know if there's any way I can help you out in the future

I hope it fits. Like I said in the PM the details are a bit soft and the parts have a lot of flash, but it should do in a pinch.
Now get building and post some pics.:lol
