Working on a set of grilles and fans for the engine deck:

those hull armor plates, did you make them from styrene im guessing, how did you cut the notches?
Yes, this is .5 mm styrene. Came up too thick, I think .25 would look better. For the notches I found hand held square punch on eBay. Again the square hole is 5x5mm which is too big, 3mm would be the best I think, if you can find one.

Perhaps it is possible to make a punch of the correct size using some square tubing stock with the end suitably sharpened. In checking Google, I found commercially available square hole punches in a variety of sizes and prices, mostly for leatherworking.

Thank you! Good to know. Didn't know these "nibblers" exist.

What you want is a 'nibbler,' like one of these:

The studio scale guys will know more about them.

Gus, these look like they'd work okay for a 5-footer depiction as well.

Robert, On the original 5-footer there are 6 'fins' on each grille that go across the other ones, not 8... Also the fans are different on 5-footer, they are, after all, real fans... Those little squares of styrene around the perimeters of the grilles are different too, so would not be 100% accurate for the 5-footer.

Yes the 32" didn't have any fans....it has a reduced down cast of cool shade solid pieces
