Has anyone made Wilson from Castaway?

I was looking at my classroom and thinking it needed a little relatively inexpensive snazzing up. I teach a film class, so I have a lot of movie stuff. Anyway, long story short, I love Castaway, and was thinking of doing a Wilson.

Anyone got one they can show me?

Wilson actually produced a volleyball with the image:

All it needs is weathering.

Actually, after that movie came out, lot's of people here made one. It was the only prop being replicated for like a month straight.

I'm pretty sure someone here will pop in with one.

Wow, an OFFICIAL Wilson volleyball. For some reason, having a non-fan made bloody handprints strikes me as tacky. Isn't that funny?

Glad I'm not the only Wison fan here. God, who'd have thought a stupid volleyball would make you all teary? What next, the plastic bag from American Beauty?

It looks simple enough, but if anyone has some construction tips, I'd appreciate it.

I used shoe polish remover by Nu-Life to take the lettering off the ball, studied the prop to determine where to cut the top, used acrylic paint for the 'face' and weathered with the same (acrylic wash). The 'hair' is a part of the palm tree reproductive system I think. Most of the time just laying around at the bottom of palms.

Hope some of that helps.

Ah yes the Wilson days :)

I made one out of a Wilson Aviator Gold I think was the one they used, plus he was right about the palm tree parts. I snapped a few quick pics of mine. ( bad lighting atm :p )

Our very own Wampa made one that I had in my collection for a time. I still have pics of it on my PC at home. I'll post them later on tonight. It was really a great replica.

I have my Wilson sittin on mt folf club stand with a cap. :)

You cab get the pre-painted Wilson's still on ebay. You can pop off the extra lettering and make the cuts for the stuffing if you want to. One of the board members did a run years ago and use the weeds from his back yard field to finish it off and it looked fine. one of the easier and fun props to make.

Here's one I made for my brother years ago:

Yep, good old sticks from the back yard. Who knows they'd come in so hadny...

Kind regards,

That was actually mmy first-ever ebay purchase.

I also have resin mini Wilsons if anyone is interested...

Well, I thought I had better pics of the Wilson I used to have, but this was all I could find.

The pic really doesn't do it justice. It was an awesome replica and made by Tom "Wampa" Spina.

I've got one I made several years ago. Since you don't really see the back (with the logo) very often, I went cheap and got an off-brand one at Walmart that was made to the same pattern. :)

He's a fun piece that many people still recognize- "Huh? OH! You've got WIIIIILSOOON!!!" :lol
