Has anyone else fallen out of love with Doctor Who?

jodie whittaker has the Doctors qurickyness down but the way she interacts with the companions compleatly wrecks it.
Good point. My issue isn't with the actor, but the writing.
I still think far too much emphasis is placed on location shooting and 'Games of Thrones' level production values and the stories seem to exist mostly as a vehicle to preach at us.
THIS. I agree with you completely, you just nailed why I'm no longer impressed!

The problem is that we never saw if she was a good Doctor. At least with Peter Capaldi, he had the opportunity at the beginning of his run to shine. By the end, he wasn't ever given anything to do. Whittaker never got a good script. We don't know how much of her annoying quirkiness was due to the terrible scripts or her own ideas about the Doctor. We know she can act. That doesn't mean she'll make a good Doctor.

Agreed. The preaching needs to stop. It's the fastest way you can get me to drop any TV show these days. You preach, I'm gone.

Cannot get a link but it has been reported that Chibnal is out Whittaker is out and they have forced her to film the regen. BBC it seems is rather unhappy with Chibnal. Good news for OG fans.

I have to say I wasn't too happy with Chibnal after the great buildup he got when he took over. As for Whittaker she had already said she would leave when Chibnal left so that isn't really a surprise. The thing I hate most is the long wait between series. I'm guessing sometime in 2020 we will find out if the problems with the show were caused by Chibnal or the BBC messing with things. I find it strange that the last 2 showrunners were able to write great episodes for the show and Moffat started off great but lost his way over the years and I always wondered if this was the fault of the BBC.

Just checked around online and some say it is happening, others say it is just a weird rumor and both are still on board for next season.

Think I will wait a bit before celebrating about it- I do not hold a grudge against Chibnal but it would help I think if he remembered what show he was in charge of and stop trying to turn it into something else.
Like Capaldi, Whittaker has not been given scripts which allow her to really shine, she is more in the role of a school bus driver taking the ensemble of companions on field trips instead.

I firmly believe that it was Moffat's fault that his run ended poorly. And to be honest, I was never all that in love with the Matt Smith era. Moffat was great when he was writing individual episodes and working for someone else. Moffat unchained is like Lucas unchained: he's got several good ideas, a couple GREAT ideas, and a whooooooole lotta crap ideas, and you get to watch them all. He needs constraints.

To be fair, back in the old days, that's a lot of what Doctor Who was: the Doctor flying around with, like, 2-4 companions who get a lot of the screen time, while the Doctor does his own thing here and there. It made sense when it was Hartnell and Troughton, because they couldn't necessarily do all the physical action. But I think it also mostly worked with Davison (although some companions were annoying -- Tegan being screechy, and Adric being....well....Adric).

I think Chibnall could have a very easy win by bringing Jack Harkness back for part of a story arc.
The dynamic between Jack and a female doctor should be fairly easy to make interesting, and it
would likely lure some fans back just to see it.

From looking at the episodes he wrote for Torchwood and Dr Who there were some really good torchwood
episodes but I wouldn't put any of the Who episodes on the top of my list (They range from meh, to a few
complete bed shittings). It can't be just the writing though, there were a bunch of different writers last season
so it must be what they are using as the writers guild/rule book that is causing the problem.

Torchwood: (Some pretty good Episodes, Did co-writing with RTD bring out some great material?)
--------------------------------------------
"Day One" (2006)
"Cyberwoman" (2006)
"Countrycide" (2006)
"End of Days" (2007)
"Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang" (2008)
"Adrift" (2008)
"Fragments" (2008)
"Exit Wounds" (2008)

Dr Who: (Mostly crap, getting worse from start to finish)
--------------------------------------------------------------
"42" (2007)
"The Hungry Earth" / "Cold Blood" (2010)
Pond Life (2012 series of mini-episodes)
"Dinosaurs on a Spaceship" (2012)
"The Power of Three" (2012)
"P.S." (2012 mini-episode)

"The Woman Who Fell to Earth" (2018)
"The Ghost Monument" (2018)
"Rosa" (co-written with Malorie Blackman, 2018)
"Arachnids in the UK" (2018)
"The Tsuranga Conundrum" (2018)
"The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos" (2018)
"Resolution" (2019)

In an interview and also at conventions John Barrowman was all for having Captain Jack make an appearance in the show- both with Capaldi and Whittaker but that phone never rang.
I think an episode with Jodi would have been spectacular

I enjoyed Doctor Who much more when it was about an alien that traveled through time and space just for the pure fun of traveling through time and space.

He would accidentally get caught up in problems on a planet and feel and obligation to help those who are downtrodden.

Now the Doctor seems to have their homebase on earth, and has become little more than a political activist and family therapist!

I enjoyed Eccleston, Tennant and most of Smith. Once Jenna Coleman showed up, it didn't work for me. Then Capaldi drove the last nail in the coffin for me. I could stand his take on the role.

When The Woman that Lived introduced the ultimate Deus ex machina, a device that made all regenerations moot, I was out.

I never thought of that before, but yes, nail on the head!

Just going to leave this here...

PLEASE be true. I hope they get the show back on track with better writing, and make it less about companions being some how super special and more about the Doctor, his travels and his companions tagging along.

Well, so far it looks like some "inside" sources say it is true, while others "inside" sources say it is not. The BBC have been rather moot... I guess time will tell but darn it! I was getting my hopes up that I can return to Who. Been a fan since Pertwee days.

I thought it would die when they switched away from 30-minute multi-part stories. That was a few decades ago. The best thing about the show is that it changes with the times (except for that darn police box!). The stories this season were much more coherent than anything from the Matt Smith era. I hope Jodie Whittaker continues with the role for a few more years.

Well??.....how does everyone feel now?

To be honest, I don't feel anything

I've lost new Star Wars, I've lost new Star Trek, now I've lost new Doctor Who

...but I can watch old stuff,...it's still there, still magical, theres new Sci-Fi coming out that excites me, so why worry (even one which falls into the Star Wars category).....all is not lost

Tom Baker, Chris Ecclesron, Matt Smith. I’ll always have them to watch. And appreciate.

Suddenly the Doctor is not even Galifreyan?

Worst reveal ever after over 50 years of continuity.

They've invalidated the 50th anniversary special with that. The whole point was that the doctor's saved Gallifrey by basically hiding it. The quest going forward was to find it which was dropped. Now it's destroyed, ostensibly beyond repair with all biologic molecules destroyed.

My question, HTF, do cyber-timelords regen immediately as if nothing happened when the timelord bodies they used to make them didn't? If the timelord doesn't regenerate at it's own death - how can the converted version??

Technically the doctor created gallifrey/freans. But now there's umpteen other previous doctor's and the doctor now has endless regenerations.
