Harrmy's Star Wars Despecialized 2.5

How despecialized are we talking about, is it just removing all of the added/changed stuff but leaving the cleaning and remastering work or is it everything that was in the SEs? I'm curious because I'm not that against the SEs, at least not all of the clean up and remastering work, the added CG work done to Mos Eisley and the like I can take or leave, but I do hate the whole Greedo shot first or at the same time as Han nonsense.

He removed all the SE stuff. It's the original cut of Star Wars (I'm sure someone out there can point out how it isn't but it's damn close at least) with the original effects.

He removed the SE changes, but also cleaned up a bunch of other stuff. It's not like rolling back to just a widescreen version of the "bonus discs" from '06. It's basically as close to an "archival" copy as we can get at the moment. It's a restoration, rather than a fan edit. Adywan does more stuff that I'd consider "edits" like adding this or that bit in. It's interesting in its own right, but it's less about preservation per se, and more about Adywan's perfect vision of the films, I guess. I'm talking stuff like adding in flaps for snowspeeders where there weren't any.

I don't want that kind of stuff, myself. I tend to be more of a purist. I just want a cleaned up restoration of the theatrical versions of the films, or as close to it as I can get, in HD and with at least 5.1 surround sound.

Watched a few comparison clips and I need this....anyone pm the link to 2.5? I can't find a complete one.

There's one shot in ESB that he missed or intentionally left in. It's at the beginning of the Hoth battle. As a squadron of snowspeeders are flying over the ground troops, they fly behind the smoke instead of in front, like in the original.

While I agree with the sentiment he's not as bad because he doesn't demand that his new version is the only one people see. Lucas and anyone else can tinker all they want but ******** let me enjoy the originals as made!

That's where I come out. Add in 400 snowspeeders, all with both top and bottom flaps deployed if you want. I don't care. Just give me an archival version of the original trilogy in its theatrical form, and I'll give you my money.

Totally agree. I enjoy seeing the changes, but when I want to experience Star Wars, I want the experience I grew up with!!!

On a side note, the 2.5 version looks beautiful! My download is having sound issues - popping, clicking and drop outs. At the point where it fades into C-3PO and his oil bath, the sound can be heard twice. Is anyone else having this problem or just me?

Multi quotes not working or I have no idea how to use that feature.

Hi,

I was able to find the v2.5 18+ GB MKV download, but don't own a BD burner. Harmy's post mentions a smaller file version in AVCHD format as an ISO that can burn to a dual layer DVD. Anyone know where I can find that version?

Thanks!
Eric

I don't know anything about this project so maybe someone can fill me in.

Now when you say despecialized, are we just talking about taking the special edition and removing the new scenes, and removing the new spaceship shots and putting the old ones back in? Because there is actually a LOT done to the special edition other than that kind of stuff. For instance the cell block escape, the perspective was changed on the cell block tunnel from the original. Also other slight edits were done. As in the original, after Leia blasts the hole going to the garbage compactor, Chewie actually approaches the hole twice. This edit flub was fixed in the SE. Many many other things like that were changed ever so slightly. Are those kinds of things being restored?

Edit: After watching the making of video I see my question about the corridor perspective is answered.

Damn, was that 'making of' video narrated by Stephen Hawking or something? What is up with that voice?

To all you guys who were able to download and make Blu-ray versions that play in players.....

Well, that's all I'm saying.

Would anyone mind dropping me a pm as to where I might get a copy of 2.5? I've got a pre-SE box set on VHS; the tapes are starting to wear out and degrade, so it is time to replace them.
