Han Solo ESB DL-44

Greetings,

I am really new to the forum, and while I did post an introduction in the new members section, I wanted to share my first and so far only self-built replica.

I built this ESB DL-44 I used an airsoft mauser for the base. The flash hider and scope mount were purchased from Blast-Tech. I built the scope using the tutorial from TK560.com. The V-8 engine piece was acquired from ebay. The screws, filler and epoxy came from Lowe's.

I had done some model making and toy modding prior to this, but as I said this was my first solid attempt at making a decent replica.

I know these pictures are kinda crappy, but I gave the gun to my sister as a wedding present and these are the only pics I have. I have asked her to take some additional pics and she said she would this weekend.

I am going to use what I learned from building this piece, as well as what I will learn from this community to build another one. I'd really like to build and display a decent amount of sci-fi and action prop guns.

I look forward to learning from everyone. I have seen some really great work in the short time I have been here.

Thanks in advance for having me.

When I first found this site, I really had no interest in blasters. However, the more I see them, the more interested I am in putting one together.

Nice work.

Yeah before I came here I was happy with just my Sterling E-11 and Imperial focus, now I seem to need every SW blaster I see!

Nice blaster!

Thanks.

I at first had no intention of building one. I was in China Town in L.A. and was looking at some air soft guns in one of the shops when I saw the Mauser and my brain said: "You know what to do with this."

Future plans are for at least one more ESB style and a steampunk style piece. I may build the ANH version as well...just because.

My sister sent me a couple of pics. They are much better than the ones I had up before. I notice the screws are missing from the scope bracket...I'll have to ask her about that one.

Nice build. I have done one using a BB Gun as well. The DL44 is so cool to do. Did you weight yours to get a better feel for weight?

Hi!

I am new to RPF as well and I came across your thread as I am working on a DL-44 ANH build.

I think it looks awesome!

Can I ask what exact paints you used for your ESB blaster (ie. enamel, acrylic, etc VS. were they spray painted or airbrushed on etc) and where you bought them from?

Thanks so much!

On the one pictured, I used rustoleoum rattle cans. I believe they were enamels made for metal. I sanded, primered with a couple of light coats of flat grey, then used a couple cans of satin black and then a light coat of gloss clear coat. There is no weathering on the gun. Paint was bought at Lowe's.

My advice is if you are going to paint it, take your time and use light coats. I could have been more patient with this piece and turned a much better product. As it stands, there are a lot of paint issues.

My next piece will be a denix build. I have read threads on these boards about bluing metal replica guns (http://www.therpf.com/f9/han-solo-e...-first-metal-blaster-build-187053/index2.html) and will probably go that route.
