Han Solo DL44 - HFC Mauser and DEC ANH kit

Hi there

This is the HFC airsoft mauser that was used for some of the props in The Force Awakens, with the brilliant "A New Hope Kit" from
Dark Energy Creations. Its fully funcional and shoots BBs. I kind of tried to mimic the ANH hero model, being well aware that the HFC
mauser is far from spot on for this. But I got the kits before DEC announced their TFA kit and just wanted to have a model that was heavy
and looked cool. And I needed it ready for a costume party so I did not have a lot of time to complete it (as you can se its still missing the two antennas on the barrel).

This is my first finished model since I was a kid, so it took a lot of work and trial and error before I was happy. The brilliant work and talent in this thread http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=228217 was what inspired me to go for it and keep going everytime I hit a wall. Thanks to everyone here for sharing. I used the tecniques described in the thread - I think I read trough it a zillion times.

The handle is a wooden handle I got from amazon and it took A LOT of cutting and sanding. I gave it a shot of matt laquer, and to my surprise that worked well (I probably should have used oil).

All metal is colored using bluing chemicals.

  • The scope mount and other pewter parts: Casey Super Blue
  • The scope, bull barrel and flash hider: Casey Aluminium Black
  • The HFC mauser: I sanded all paint of the HFC mauser (I tried 3 different paint strippers without effect) and used Aluminium Black (6-7 applications) and then black shoe polish. I also tried Casey Super Blue, but found that this gave the metal the exact same brown/greenish color that the HFC mauser allready has out of the box. Aluminium black gave it a more dark tone.

The scope mount was fixed to the body drilling three holes and threading them (after removing all gun interior), filling the holes with epoxy and then screwing the screws in place. The screws then had to be sanded down on the inside of the gun, or else they would interfere with the gun mechanics. This is extremely strong. I probably could have done with two screws only - but since I had just learned threading I just could not stop :)

I know that there are so many brilliant and extremely talented DL44 builds on this site, but I just wanted to share the result in a place where the amount of work required is appreciated. And I myself love seeing what others did to their models. So after lurking in the dark on the RPF for a looong time - here goes...

Great work on your blaster. How did you achieve the look on the brass scope pieces? They came out great.
