…The prop comes with “impeccable documentary provenance” and Studio Auctions says it has been authenticated by the person who designed it, Academy Award Winner, Roger Christian and by Jason Joyner, considered by many to be the foremost expert on Star Wars props.

Roger Christian said: “I have seen several purported Han Solo Blasters over the years which I could not authenticate. This is the first blaster I have seen that is consistent with the features of my original and with documentation to back it up which bears the serial number on this Mauser.”

It takes five minutes to come to the conclusion that this is not the same as what was on screen. How do these keep slipping through to auctions?

It’s like the childhood picture game where you circle all the differences. And with this case, there would be a lot of circles that even a child could spot. Hammer, safety, grips, scallops on flash hider…. Difference is someone thinks their picture is worth $3M.

PVmodels - can you educate me on wartime serial numbers vs. commercial - just curious...

Thanks!!

First off. I’m not an expert. I’ve just been researching the Mauser information as much as I research here on the RPF about Star Wars props. This is all other peoples work.

You enter the serial number in this one and it shows year and notes features which is nice. Plug the serial from the MSN picture in and you get 1898.

And another source that shows approximate date ranges.

Like the pawn star gun with serial 299415 was from WWI. We only know the hero’s last four of 2813. From all the sources I’ve read, the features are consistent with it being a 200k or 300k serial number. Wide range I know but they made a lot during the war.
