Han Shot First Diorama Build

Since I'm in a posting mood. I thought I would post some stuff about my OTHER project. I recently got some new 6 inch Star Wars toys and decided to build a little set for Han and Greedo. I haven't built anything like this in years...YEARS!

I made one chair. Molded and cast up 4. That's way less trouble than building all four perfectly.

I made only one table but I'm probably going to mold and cast it too so that I can put an LED inside of it.

Now I'm working on the set background. This is a project I'll start and stop until it's done.

Very nicely done.

I've thought about doing this exact thing with the Black Series figures... Looks great!

If you're like me Kevin and don't have the patience and skill to build these items,Yak face.com has been promoting this guy's work: http://www.holeinthegroundpro.com/dioramas.html. He has cantina table and chairs for both 6" and 3 3/4" figures. I have been considering getting a set.

I figured some one out there must have done this too. The fun for me is building the stuff but I love that holeintheground are basically kits. I'd consider his stuff next time for sure.

I have to say the 6 inch figures are very very nice! I have been excited about a star wars action figure in a while until I found these. I have Luke and R2 as well. I'd like to be another one with them. Maybe something with a piece of the X wing crashed and R2 being spit out of the water. Ha.

The next wave of 6" figures include C-3PO and Chewbacca. How about a 6" scale Dejarik Holochess table. Do you know anything about designing a Dejarik Holochess table? ;)

WOW just WOW!

This is SOOOOOO much better than the crappy card board set they gave for this set.
I have to buy Greedo next/now and have a go at something like this.

I have only just got my first few 6" figures and think the 6" are probably the best thing for SW figures since the original vintage. Though I do think Jabba is a bit undersized for this scale.

I have not really played around with the Han figure yet to test the full range of movement. It is possible to lower the right arm and bend the wrist up a bit so his (the one and only) shot comes from below the table?

I really like this. I too love the six inch figures. And a real diorama set piece is a great idea and you are executing it well.

I dunno... after looking at it from this angle... Maybe Greedo did shoot first. ;)

Even better, I never really thought about the set dressing before for this scene but...there is simply NO way Greedo wouldn't have seen Han pulling his blaster, swinging it around the side of the table, and getting ready to fire. The way it's edited implies the shot comes from under the table, which is clearly impossible given the thing is a solid cylinder. Ha!

GL has always based his films on concepts and inspiration he gets from other films. Shooting through the table is a classic western theme.

So I did a quick version in SU based on jbfatcats awesome project and then I found images online of other versions including the book ends.

The semi-circle version with a window looked neat and should not be that hard to construct using foam.

I got my Greedo today. Is he supposed to be this grubby? Seriously, he looks like some kid has played with him a muddy puddle somewhere, then let him dry and put him back in the box.

I get that; I got it in '77. The point is that -look at it - it's not physically possible for that scene to have played out the way it's edited - the inserts shot back in the states of, I think it was actually Gary Kurtz's hand pulling the blaster if I recall...don't match the table built in London, which is a solid cylinder - there's no 'under' it to shoot via. It's a well-worn cliche, so narratively of course it works - I just never thought about the physical impossibility of it before.

Having watched the scene Han getting a shot off first kinda makes sense only because

1. Greedo is focused on Han and not what Han is actually doing

and

2. Han doesn't have his leg straight out he has it kind of bent over towards the edge while resting it on the table blocking the view a bit (you can see this when he gets up after shooting Greedo)

as for shooting through the table I don't think he actually does I just think they threw the sparks in there for effect.

But this is just my opinion.

It's a gun that shoots laser beams. In space. With aliens. What's physically impossible again..?
