Halo3 Eod Helmet

I've been working away on this in my spare time for a while now. Still needs a lot of detail and clean up work but I think its getting there. This is one of a group of scifi themed helmets I'm making from various franchises, trying to get something together to impress Weta enough to employ me as a helmet maker (..is that even a job? lol ) in the near future

Brilliant work so far!! Looks awesome! I love seeing helmets other than the Mark VI being created! Still waiting on the ODST though! :D heheh

Whoa! That EOD is the awesome!! Did you do this for the Pepakura models out there or did you sculpt this on your own? The detail on this is incredible. Really a great job here. Can't wait to see more.
 
Thanks for the kind responses, In answer to a few questions

@TheGuyver, the ODST is being worked on by the chaps at Legendary Armor (the guys that made the best mkVI in the world so far), I designed the 3d file for their CNC foam base for their project (like the recent halo 3 marine helmet), I haven't seen any updates on it in a while though. You can read about their work on 405th.com, truly the best prop makers I've ever worked with. They have a thread here about their Mk VI

I've used a combination of methods to make this so far. I used pepakura to find the correct proportions, and a bit of the top of the helmet is just bondo on a pepakura armature, everything else was sculpted and cast, found, modded or built from various materials then attached after tooling and clean up. Pepakura is a great little tool for sculptors, but it has some pretty severe limitations IMO. So the helmet is more like a combination of small sculptures, than one sculpture....like voltron :)

Cool, I've just signed up to 405th.com, didn't know it even existed...some interesting projects going on there!! And the news about the ODST sounds very promising!

So, what is it about the EOD helmet that made you decide to build it over the other designs?
There are so many great helmet designs in Halo, I find it hard enough to choose one to wear in game! Are you planning to make the rest of the armour? I always enjoyed the big shoulder pads!
 
I choose the EOD becuase it hasnt been done before. Its not my favourite helmet in the world to be honest, but it does have a certain "I dont know what" Its quite reminisenct of the japanese robot cartoons I watched as a kid. I have no plans to make armour, there are already so many people doing top job on it, and I've never been much of a costumer myself, I just like making helmets :)
 
sh.... all you down under-ers are alike.

Anyways, do you have any progress pics of this? I'd love to see how you got it so freaking clean looking.
 
i really like it.. cant wait to see it painted.. i hope you cast more.. i wouldnt mind getting one of those..
