Halo Reach Jorge Build

I've been working on this over the weekend and I am fairly pleased with the result so far.
It was constructed using ForgedReclaimer of the 405th's very high detail model available here: ForgedReclaimer's Pepakura Database
He not only included the helmet but all of the attachments available and reference images and detailing guides.

My camera does not do justice to all the small details.

Pepakura assembly.

The attachment is held in place with a bit of masking tape so it looks awkward but that will be solved before the piece is finished. Also the image from the front is at an odd angle so it looks larger than it actually is.

Hardened with Rondo(Fiberglass resin and Bondo slurry).

This will be on the back burner to my Blood Dragon build but I cannot wait to work on it.

I also have a small Rondo Tutorial I would like to post but I'm not entirely sure where to do so.

Re: Halo Reach Grenadier Helmet

As this will be turned into a Jorge build when I finish my Blood Dragon,
I'm thinking of modding this(N-Strike Vulcan):

into this(Jorge's custom M247H):

Though it may just be using the parts in a scratch built frame.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Re: Halo Reach Grenadier Helmet

The helmet looks good man. As for the Vulcan it looks like a good base for Jorge's weapon but you'll need to add a lot to it.

I was thinking of adding the details and length with styrene and PVC for the barrel but I may just use the internal parts and put them into a styrene shell.

Re: Halo Reach Grenadier Helmet

Styrene and PVC should work well. You've got to remember not to make it too heavy. It's been awhile since I played the game, but does the gun connect to the backpack also?

Not that I've seen, though its a wonder how he manages to have that much ammo in the small side box.

Re: Halo Reach Grenadier Helmet

Haha yeah. Are you planning on making the armour with foam like your me2 build? Or you going to do pepakura?

Re: Halo Reach Grenadier Helmet

I will most likely use Pepakura printouts as templates for a foam build. It's just so much more light weight and comfortable.

Re: Halo Reach Grenadier Helmet

This is true nothing beats lightweight. I haven't seen a foam build up close. Do you get as much detail as pepakura or is it a bit lacking?

Re: Halo Reach Grenadier Helmet

It's been a while since I've had the chance to do any building but here is a look at what I was able to do today.
Jorge's backpack:

I used a 3D model I created to make templates for EVA foam and then cut them out using my new scroll saw with the proper angles so each joint lines up perfectly.
The orange parts are 3mm foam for raised details.
It may not look like much but it stands at just under 14 inches so far.
I'll work on it some more tomorrow and hopefully have it fully assembled by the end of the week.

I didn't get as much done by now as I had hoped but I need to buy some more blades for the saw before I continue.
Here is what I have so far:

Sorry about the image being small, I didn't want the sides to get cut off in the thread.

Here is an image of my 3D render that the templates are based on:

Jorge.... the silly AI character that stands and does nothing when you're under intense fire, then stands in your line of fire when you have that Elite's head in your scope.

Oh, awesome build btw!

You talked about putting a Nerf Vulcan's internals in a scratch built frame and I'd advise against that. I've pulled a part quite a few Nerf guns and trust me, you'd be better off adding to the Vulcan frame rather than trying to rehouse all of its internal components.

So close to being done I can almost taste it.
Although that may just be all the EVA saw dust floating around my office.

The upper details are the same for each side so I only took a picture of the left.
Hopefully I can have it finished up within the next day or two.

Just need to finish off the back and add a few more detail pieces.

I'm so proud of my little saw:

I think I need to plan my part layouts better to turn a huge pile of scraps into a small-medium one.
