Halo Hybrid Suit. (First time scratchbuilding with foam.)

Firstly, let me get this out of the way before you move onto the pictures and start going to town on inaccuracy. This isn't really supposed to be a specific suit from any of the Halo games.
That being said, let's move onto the actual interesting stuff!

This build is, as the title says, my first attempt at foam scratch-building. I've always been interested in giving foam building a shot, moreso after seeing the suits that the guys over at Impact Props started pumping out last year. I started this project planning on following their EVA foam templates from start to finish.
Unfortunately/fortunately, my printer ran out of ink, and I didn't want to wait for the new ink to arrive before starting the project. The morning of me deciding I wanted to start a suit, I found a stack of slightly used EVA foam buried in the weeds under my house. Which explains the punctures and stains on the unpainted bits.

So I've been scratch-building a suit, and it's been quite the learning experience! In three weeks, I've managed to get six pieces of the suit done, with the largest piece almost to the paint stage.
I haven't been documenting my process as much as I should have to start a thread here, but from now on, I'll be trying to take more photos of the process.

About a year ago, I started the process of making a suit using the standard pepakura/fiberglass/bondo method, but that was getting to be exceedingly costly on my part-time budget. So I dropped the project after finishing the helmet.
I've still got the helmet, (Mk 4 I think?) and I'll be reusing it with this costume, hence the name, Hybrid suit.

I've been pulling design cues from the Halo 4 Recruit armor for the torso armor, and while not totally accurate, it suits my purposes nicely.

Not sure if I'm going to go for attached shoulder pads, like the Hayabusa suits has, or if I'll go for separate, like the Recruit armor.
Time and availability of material will be the deciding factor in that.

Thighs, shins, and forearm armors all came out well. The forearm bits were the first pieces I'd ever done, so they were a bit of a trial run.

And last but not least, the rather worse for wear helmet from last year.
I upgraded the paint job with a white stripe, and added weathering to go along with the damage I added previously.

Hope this wasn't a slog to read through, I've been known to ramble a bit, so if you reached the end without going "TL;DR", congratulations to you!

Thanks for reading, and look for updates in the coming days/weeks!

With Halloween in the near future, I've managed to put some hours in on the suit, getting two shoulder pieces done, knee pads, and finished painting everything.
Once I drop by my local hardware store and pick up a new glue gun, I'll be diving back into building the shoes, waist armor, and back armor.
