Hair, Fur and Shaggy stuff.

Hoping this thread can become the storehouse for all our fur and hair info.

So there have been a few questions about hair and furs lately and National Fiber Technology keeps coming up.
http://www.nftech.com/
The website has some info on it, but not a great deal. I got in touch with them and they are super easy to talk to. They sent free samples of some Clearance Fur they have and they also sent a brochure that answers more questions than the website. I mistakenly thought they had charged me for a sample before, but that was PreFur. I'll post my thoughts on them later. Here is the brochure for NFT, hopes this helps some folks and answers some questions.

My samples front and back. One has a traditional backing like fun fur the other is a 4 way stretch and is super cool.

Another cool thing is the fiber is also sold as loose hair so you can punch hairlines that match the material exactly.

Hope this helps, add your tips, tricks and other product info.

Great info. A few future projects I'd like to do ivolve fur. Will have to look into this. Thanks!

Just a heads up

Im working with NFT to create a accurate 300 Leonides crest. The goal is to have accurate shape and length of hair with it able to stand up straight thick without any added products. Will be posting pictures once the 1st mock ups are done.

I've posted the price list, and there is a "Clearance" section on the site with sale prices.

I'll scare up my numbers too. The samples I have are from some Clearance items so it won't really be of any use, other than to see what they have. Yeah, I have a feeling I'm gonna be talking to them a good bit.

I've been working with NFT stuff for years. I wish there was a less expensive alternative, but I've yet to find it. It is worth the price for the quality though. The backing fabric is pretty durable and seems to hold up well over time. It takes dye and fabric paint well..
For anyone not experienced with fur fabrics - make sure to take care cutting it- measure carefully and twice, taking in the stretch considerations. Always cut the fabric from the backside using a very sharp razor or scissors worked shallowly into the hair taking care not to cut the long hair on the frontside. Use a brush or comb to help with separating the hair before cutting & sewing. You can use tissue paper between layers when sewing to keep it from getting into your machines.
