Gun Gurus: Revolutionary War-style pistol?

I have a prop-related question...sort of. My wife and I recently purchased a very nice print of George Washington at Valley Forge. It's hanging over our mantel piece, and I was thinking of making a nice little display out of it by placing Revolutionary War pistols on the mantel.

I was hoping some of our firearm experts might be able to point out a place I can get some replica pistols. Any help would be much appreciated.

Mods, if you feel this isn't prop related, feel free to move it.

How accurate do you want, do you want it to really work, and how much do you want to spend?

There's $40-odd flintlock replicas made of pot metal and painted wood all over eBay and other stores online, that would suffice. There's even a "George Washington" model if I recall correctly.

If you want "real" try loyalist arms, gggodwin.com, or Dixie Gun Works or the like. There you can get a number of (mostly Italian or Indian made) flintlock pistols that tend to be much less guady and actually work*. They'll run in the $200-$400 range.

Finally, if you want nice and real, you can get a number of kits (I want to say Muzzleloader supply has some nice period pistol kits?) or have a custom builder make one for you. Price for a good kit will start $400-ish and with a skilled builder can rapidly move up into the thousands.

All that said, I LOVE your idea for a display!!
Personally, I'd go with a Charleville or Brown Bess musket though. Those two pretty much won the country for us. If you want to stick officer-wise, perhaps a pistol and a hanger (sword).

*a lot of the Indian made repros don't have the touchhole drilled so they can be legally imported. You can either leave it as is for a non-firing replica, or drill out the hole and have a "real" pistol.

Thanks for your questions and compliment regarding my display idea. I'm not looking to spend a whole lot of money...trying to keep it under $200. I'm not really looking for a firing replica...maybe just something with a working hammer and trigger. I will take a look around the places you suggested. Thanks for all the great tips.

Any additional suggestions are also welcome.
