Green Lantern Ring

I know it's not always black and white when it comes to props -- especially here on the RPF! But this situation is a bit different. Why? Because we can see that it is a promotional ring. Sure, who knows, maybe they shot an insert with a promotional ring, but I doubt it.

Imagine someone posted a photo of 'em wearing a Vader dome, one that a lot of people recognized, and claimed it was screen-used. First, we'd all say, "You look like a tool -- take off that dome, fool!" Then, someone would post a photo of, say, a 20th Century dome -- which looks a lot like the dome someone is claiming is screen-used. If they looked exactly the same, like the rings above, we'd have to refute the claim.

Of course. You guys are right. Carry on.

EDIT- I had added some information here about that being impossible due to when the promo rings were made and the movie was shot, but have redacted it. I don't want to muddy the thread with information that conflicts with the solid detective work done by the Internet at large.

hey, i dont wat to offend anybody here, but how do you know that what you were told i true? you stated that peoples sources nomater where they came from can be incorect. im no expert on the green lantern movie ring but that deffinatly looks like the promo ring.

again, i dont mean to say anybodys lieing or anything, just pointing out what i think.

Exactly, there is always doubt.

Again, in the end the issue here turned into some thing other that whether the ring was real.

Exactly. The issue is that you should never believe the wild, unfounded claims of someone that worked on the props for movie, or even the propmaster for the movie.

What you SHOULD believe is the guy on the internet whos friend was told it was screen used.

But hey, believe who you want.

Your just another guy on the internet to me...

And if my friend was Ryan Reynolds. What would you say then?

It's not, but if it were, then what would you say?

You think it is beyond the realm of possibilities for some guy from the promo department to walk on set, hand Ryan Reynolds a stack of rings and say "put these on so they can be given out as authentic."

No, that could never happen.

And I'm not saying it did.

LOL. You're absolutely right.

I would say that I'm surprised he didn't have a photo of a better one to show you. We made a boatload of hero rings, which were a whole lot prettier than those cheap promo rings.

Keep believing in the tooth fairy, Mike. :lol

Mike, Stormleader has been a long time member and has been professionally working in the Prop industry for some time working on recent large projects. I'll vouch for him. I don't want to share any info he hasn't already, BUT what he says about the ring, I'd believe him. He has a pretty close association with it.

Stormleader,

I think we all know this is beyond a GL ring. The issue is the automatic "NO" that gets thrown around here and the belief that production guys are always right. They are not and I'm sure you can agree with that. In this case, maybe, but not the point Mic was making.

Sure, there is a small possibility that this ring was used possibly as fill in for a late filmed scene worn by an extra. But, since it is still pretty much identical to the promotional rings, and there isn't anything yet to prove that this ring is in fact the unique one used in this hypothetical scenario, it's additional value based on this theoretical situation is?...

So the lesson I have learned here is: that if you are a professional in this industry, we really don't care what you have to say. We will still believe what we want anyway...I guess :unsure

To end on a more positive note. Cool ring, I hope the movie is as cool.

A
