Green Lantern Movie Ring

Well, here is the first look at the power battery. Very alien looking, but it fits in with the design of the suit and the ring.

I can see how that would be disappointing, IF everything else from the movie looked like it jumped from the printed pages we know and love.. But if look at it as a whole, with the concepts we've seen of Oa, The other corpsmen, Hal's suit, then it fits perfectly. This is a real take on an alien design- why would or should it look like come thing you can pick up at your local REI? This looks very alien to me and that's what the GLC is- alien.

The problem that I and a number of others have with it is that it looks like they took KYLE'S power battery, redesigned the handle on it, punched up the detail to look better on film, and thus gave us this.

Also, how in the HELL are they going to make an accurate prop replica without it costing us an arm, a leg, our left nut, AND our first born?!? :confused

Shouldn't the battery at least try to resemble the GL symbol?

Other than the design, I like the materials it is made out of.

I'm so disappointed in this movie, I might have to wear my Deadpool costume to protest how big a deal everyone's making out of the Green Lantern movie.

Curse my compulsion to collect awesome ****. I want the damn ring, but I'm going to have to couple it with the Deadpool costume.

I dig it.

It still looks truer to the comics than the dark knight suit. Or Batman and Robin for that matter. :p

Star Sapphires for the win. I'm glad I have my lantern ring tattooed on my finger so I don't have to worry about getting a real ring for the movie premier.

At first I thought I thought oh no....but now I'm starting to like the battery. I'm still thinking about making a new ring and if I were to make a battery to go with it I would embed a super small RFID tag in the ring so that battery pulsates when the ring is near.

Honus, that would be amazing. That's more than enough to get me reconsidering the movie design. Wow.

You would be surprised how easy it would be to do. I've already designed two round LED circuit boards- one is 3" diameter and the other is 2" diameter. Each board has 24 super bright LEDs. I've already written code that allows them to pulse- they fade up to full brightness and then fade out. All I would need to do is add the RFID reader and modify the code to get the pulsing right when the ring is near.

Most of the small passive RFID tags have a pretty short reading distance- anywhere from a few millimeters to a few centimeters so the ring would have to be pretty close to the battery for it to work. There are active tags but they require power to work and the battery life on a glowing ring would be pretty short as it is. One passive tag I've been looking at has a range of about 40mm and is 16mm in diameter- it's the same size as the battery I would use to power the ring so it would fit very nicely inside the ring.

The hard part is making the ring and embedding the RFID tag but I've already designed a small circuit board for that. I just need to finish up a couple of projects and then I can get working on it. This could be fun!
