GQ interviews Bill Murray...And it doesn't look good for Ghostbusters 3.

For the lazy:

Anything happening with a third 'Ghostbusters'?

Murray: "It's all a bunch of crock. It's a crock. There was a story -- and I gotta be careful here, I don't want to hurt someone's feelings. When I hurt someone's feelings, I really want to hurt them. [laughs] Harold Ramis said, Oh, I've got these guys, they write on 'The Office,' and they're really funny. They're going to write the next 'Ghostbusters.' And they had just written this movie that he had directed..."

...which was 'Year One': "Well, I never went to see 'Year One,' but people who did, including other Ghostbusters, said it was one of the worst things they had ever seen in their lives. So that dream just vaporized. That was gone. But it's the studio that really wants this thing. It's a franchise. It's a franchise, and they made a whole lot of money on 'Ghostbusters.'"

Def. not a nail in any coffins, but def. does not sound as DEFINITE a thing IMDB and others have reported.

I'll be honest... I don't think I want another GB movie.

I thought I wanted another Star Wars movie and it almost destroyed my love for Star Wars.

I thought I wanted a Peter Jackson King Kong and it blew.

I thought I wanted another Indy movie and it was an embarrassment.

Hollywood seems bent on destroying all the things that made my childhood great, so I'm not sure I want another GB movie...

+1 (though I did enjoy the last Indy movie. Not as much as the original three, but I enjoyed it)

sony, reitman, aykroyd, ramis, and murray ALL have to sign off on anything GB related that hits the market. from what everyone says, murray is definitely the last hold out for a third film.

it seems that his main reasoning for holding out is that he simply wants the film to be good. wild concept, huh? it's not some big money grab like the GARFIELD films... from what he's said in interviews, he has a genuine respect for the first film and doesn't want it tarnished with another bad sequel. (i say that with a HUGE nostalgic love for GB2) in can't remember which interview it was, but murray flat out stated that the first 45 minutes of GB is his favorite work from his career.

murray gets bashed by GB fans BIG TIME for holding out on things... and needlessly so. he's pretty much saving the franchise from being raped and pillaged by the studio. did anyone actually see YEAR ONE, which was written by the guys hired to write the current iteration of GB3? yikes. bad stuff.

bill... keep up the good work, sir.

Great news! Murray rocks!

I'm a huge GB fan but I find this to be a relief! The American version of the Office is lame, and Year One looked so horrible I never bothered to see it, not even at a dollar show.

I still say the time for this movie would have been 1995 or so. I think it should be left alone. It's been 26 years. The actors are in their 60's and I don't really want to see a Ghostbusters The Next Generation... particularly, not now.

its like this.
i dont want a movie with them making old jokes. "im getting too old for this" and "i have a heart condition." and "hows your fibromialgya?" they already began making hints to falling apart from age in the second movie.

im content with there only being two. if a third ever happens, get ready for that.

If all Murry wants is to save the integrity of the GB franchise, he should say so. All he needs to say is that he's not trying to be difficult, but that he just wants the next installment to be a quality product and not some slap-dash money grab.

Stop acting so stuck-up when asked about a third GB movie, if you are really tring to insure a good sequel, or if your just not interested in participating in it, SAY SO!!

As for Ramis' last directorial outing being a disaster. Just remember that every director out there today including the big names, have each had at least one crappy directorial display. Don't base a future screenplay/script on how good/bad a previous one was.

Give it a chance Bill.

he's said it MULTIPLE times. i don't have the time to dig up the exact quote or source, but murray has said in countless interviews that he would do the film if the script is good.

...but the fans will bash...and whine... and call him names... and then bash him some more until he makes the film. then when it sucks, they'll bash him some more.

i want you to close your eyes and imagine for a moment... imagine that nearly everywhere you go... nearly every day of your life... random strangers ask you the same exact same question about your job. i would be willing to guarantee that murray has been asked about GB3 nearly EVERY STINKING DAY since the summer of '89. he's an extremely dry, witty comedian. i think it says a lot that he even lets the question be brought up in interviews. i dont' think he's being stuck up about it... he's probably just sick of hearing it.

d_osborn: Exactly. He's not 100% against it. He's willing but he's not going to go ahead and do a 3rd one if he feels it's not as good as it could be. I don't blame him. Look at "Indy 4" .

Okay, fair enough. I think I've been in a bash Bill mood for awhile. I don't have cable so I don't watch TV, and I don't read many entertainment related interviews and stuff so I probably have missed it. I also agree about being asked about one role all the time would get a person a little ticked off.

I will no longer bash Bill:)

I thought he did GB2 if they promised he'd be able to do "Razors Edge". I think we should let GB stay. I know if they were planning on BTTF4 then I would start a world wide petition to END it fast, or convince them to let ME write it.

I'll tell ya an interesting GB3...

lol at your pic's date...how long did "0 BC" last?/when did "0 AD" begin?
Technically speaking, there has never been a 0 B.C. or a 0 A.D.. The proper chronological order would be 3 B.C., 2 B.C., 1 B.C., 1 A.D., 2 A.D., 3 A.D., and so on. Also, contrary to popular belief, "A.D." does not stand for "After Death"; it stands for "Anno Domini" which is Medieval Latin for "In the year of (the/Our) Lord", a reference to the year of the birth of ***** ******. Oddly enough, many modern scholars believe ***** was actually born in the year 4 B.C.. :confused Hey, you asked.

Back to the topic, I'm not much of a Ghostbusters fan, but I still have no desire to ever see Grumpy Old Ghostbusters or Ghostbusters: The Next Generation. Leave well enough alone.

Someday this topic will rest in peace finally... Everytime I heard something from GB3 from Murray, Ramis, Aykroyd or Reitman it gets only more confused... Its a "wonderland-syndrom"... From moment to moment it gets more strange...

Hopefully GB3 will burried in the deepest hole ever, that no-one will find it till its forgotten and we have our 2 GB movies...

No-one needs a 3rd part...
