GotG - Another Star Lord

Hi!

I know there are a lot of these by now, but I still wanted to make a thread of my own. Its pretty much my first cosplay, besides a Stormtrooper-kit, and that deserves a thread! Also having a thread will probably help keep me motivated.
My goal with this project is NOT 100% movie accuracy, but to learn. And to have fun of course!
I've spent most of my life in front of the computer so almost everything is new to me, down to using sandpaper and painting! I will appreciate all tips and pointers!

So! Lets get started!

Helmet

I printed Helagaks helmet on my 3D printer and I'm know in the process of sanding and fitting all the parts. After that I plan to put some bondo on some details and use a lot of filler primer to smooth things out. Since my goal is to learn I want to have a go at molding and casting it. I've been looking at Mold-Max 30 and Smooth-Cast 65D.

Here is a picture of the helmet yesterday when I test fitted it. It seems to fit my head well.

Jacket

Ordered from fjackets. Should arrive any day. Just hopes it fits!

Shirt and pants

Boring answer: don't know yet. Will probably just find something that looks close enough. Maybe try to modify pants if possible.

Belt

Might try to do something out of clay. I have a friend who is great with clay, maybe he could teach me the basics so I could make the buckle.
MorbidCharlie made an awesome looking belt and I might try doing something similar to him.

Shoes

I'll get the Skechers from Amazon and some leather and try making something that looks like the movie.

Gun

3D print from Helagaks file, same as the helmet.

Walkman

Since the Walkmans are so expensive on Ebay I thought it would be fun to make my own and print. I'm new to 3D modeling so this is a big challenge for me. Again, I'm not going for 100% accuracy, but just something that looks good with my costume. I also thought it would be fun if I could fit my iPhone in there.
I'm far from done, but here is was I got so far:

So far pretty happy with it, and with three parts like that it should print well on my 3D printer. The big part and the side will be glued while the top will be a lid for the iPhone. Buttons will be printed separate.

That's what I got so far. I will post updated when I have some. And please, I would love all feedback, good as bad. Pointers, tips and tricks and so on!

Thanks!

I'm liking the idea of the walkman with a removable top for your phone. And your 3d print looks great! How do you plan on joining the pieces of the helmet together?

Glue, then fill the gaps with bondo I suppose. That's what I'll try next at least! :D

When you printed Helagaks' mask files, did you just scale them by 0.8823529412%? I noticed the file names had "scale 49.5" on some and it was confusing. Not sure what that 49.5 meant.

I was really confused by that too, I just scaled all to 0.88%.

I would love some decals, I'll PM you! Thanks!

The postman just came knocking on my door!

I think the jacket looks awesome, really worth its price. It felt a bit large on me at first, but I think it looks ok in the pictures. This is a medium, the small would have been to short on me anyways.

Your work on the printable Walkman looks great. Is it going to be in color?

If you don't mind how tall are you? Sometimes I have a sleeve vs body issue when buying jackets.

Looking great so far. I'm in the process of printing the mask myself too, looking forward to see how your smoothing goes.

Thanks! I plan on printing it in one color, then smooth with filler primer and then paint.

I'm about 5'11".

Thanks, so am I! I'll buy some bondo after work tomorrow and go at it!

You should show some pictures of your print! Love to see prints from different printers!

Here's what I've done so far. It's printed on my Mendel90, silver PLA with 0.3 layer height, both printed with support.

I'm going to either print the mouth or cheeks tonight. I changed the flipped the cheek parts vertically and will print the two together.

Jacket looks good :) how long did it take from date of order to when you got it? May I ask also what your sizes are? Ie chest, waist, shoulder, arm? And what size jacket did you end up ordering? I'm still note sure which size I will order. I'm debating between medium and large

Thanks for the info. Being 6'2.5" and about 200 looks like I'll be skirting between Large and XL.

Oh, haha! That's a lot of measuring I would have to do! I just used their guide and went my chest size. Seems to work.
I'm in Sweden and shipping here was 11 days from order.

Added a bit more of detail to the Walkman. Don't think I'll add much more since my printer wont be able to print that fine details anyways! Might have a go at printing it tomorrow!

The Walkman looks great! Most of the fine details look like they can be drawn on or etched in, so I think you'll be fine there. Really interested in seeing everything come together.

Would you mind sharing the files for the Walkman when you're done? I've been 3d printing my own helmet the last week, and I'd love to get that piece churned out, too.

I actually bought a real TSP-L2 on eBay yesterday. I will still print my own, because I want one that fits my iPhone! When I get my real one I will make a better model with real measurement. If I'm happy with the results I might share!

Thanks for all the nice words guy!

I put on the first bondo yesterday. Stupidly I used to little hardener... It's still kinda soft. I'm going to try and remove it later and start over. Stupid mistakes!!
