Good place for 1920s replica clothing?

My wife and I are attending my cousins wedding next Thursday and they are having it in a 1920s prohibition theme. We definitely do NOT want to go dressed in something from the mall, so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a place for such clothing. I'm holding my breath, but am also trying not to sink $800 into this :$

There are lots of very affordable 1920s vintage dresses on ebay just a matter of your wife searching through them and finding one that she likes. Men's suits none at the mo on the bay a couple on etsy in the 2 to 3 hundred dollar range.....

Fortunately the style of men's suits don't really change all that much and you could perhaps find an old wool at a thrift shop and have someone alter it to a more 1920's silhouette. Would definitely need a vest with it. Add a straw boater or a newsboy cap......

Oh, wait, I just now see you say NEXT THURSDAY----Try to find a rental place near you, or a vintage clothing store.....other than that the best I can offer is hit the thrift stores and see what you can find to quickly alter into reasonable facsimiles........you can do a lot if you were to just keep something modern very simple in color and style and depend on elements from the neck up to carry the 20s theme for you. As I suggested a straw boater or newsboy cap for the gent, one of those stiffened Edwardian collars, alter a tie to the correct shape for the era.
And for the lady a simple clingy shift dress, some long beads or lots of beads and/or a boa, or beads and a detached fur collar, finger curl her hair or if not possible due to present hair style and cut, a felt or knit hat that would pass for a cloche, pulled down to the top of the eyebrows that was the 20s style, dark lipstick......

Good luck with this project. It would have been much easier if you had started sooner!!!

Yeah, planning didn't make it into the equation....

We've had their invitation for a long time now, and not until today did either one of us even THINK about partaking in the suggested attire:facepalm

We have been snooping around the internets and found some impressive stuff, but crap some of it is pricey. There are only two thrift stores nearby and I hate to put a lot of hope in them. But hey, can only blame myself for last minute gathering!

It can be done! It will just require getting very creative and inventive with what you are able to find--you'll have to be designing on the fly. Don't forget the Halloween costume shops if you have one in your area. Sure, what 20s stuff they have maybe cheesy and gaudy and too tart-y, but there are techniques for bringing it inline!!

Are you going for the classic 20s like this picture of Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford.......

Or since you said it's 1920s prohibition themed, are you going more for the iconic flapper girl and gangster look?

And I am sure hoping you both have the weekend free for making this happen!! I volunteer any help I might be able to give........

Don't forget good obnoxious wingtip shoes if you go gangster. Or a newsboy (think golfer) hat with suspenders and those elastic bands on the biceps to keep the sleeves up if you go depression. Good luck!

Darth Mule is the one who could come up with some good quick solutions.
