Golden Age Alan Scott Lantern

G'day everyone.

I'll be attending Dragon Con for the 1st time this year. One of the costumes I'm going as will be Green Lantern Alan Scott. Decided to make my own train lantern to have as a prop. I've done a few versions but this one was made to match the chest logo on the costume.

I can install lighting so it does light up but for this trip have stripped it down and will be using a reflective material instead as I don't want to have the thing confiscated at the airport in case someone thinks it might be an explosive device of some sort.

Here's the final result: View attachment 31814 View attachment 31815 View attachment 31816

The original one I made has side ports but it quite a bit heavier so I stripped down the design to make it lighter.

All of them are made from PVC plumbing supplied, cereal bowls and udon bowls. I used bucket handles for the heavier one and an embroidery hoop for my stripped down lantern. They can both be wired to light up.

I've had people ask, so yes I can make them but I don't. Sorry as the cost of shipping one of these from Australia the last time I did one was $68.00 AUD. It's just crazy.

awesome.
i like how you used pvc pipe t connectors. pretty slick idea.

Thanks. I was just walking through the hardware store and it all sort of fell into place in my head LOL.

I've just added the final part to the one I'm taking to DC. I found some reflective, holographic wrapping paper that I'm using instead of having it light up. It gives it a kind of sparkly flame effect.

and one indoors with a flash.

A very nice lantern. How long did it take you to make it?

Been thinking of doing one but I never have the time.

Not long now. 1st one I did took a week. Now it's only a few hours. Longest part is waiting for the glue and modeling putty to set. I'd say without waiting for the glue it's about 3 hours or so.

Just out of curiosity, what size pvc and udon bowls did you use on your original lantern? I didn't intend on making the battery at first, but after seeing yours, I may change my mind. I had to look up udon bowls, as I didn't know there was a specific bowl for that.

Thanks for the ideas, I used them and was very happy with what I came up with
