GLaDOS PoTaDOS Build

How are you holding up?

BECAUSE I'M A POTATO.

I just finished Portal 2 recently ( I know, a little late to the game ) and WOW! I never enjoy video games but that one blew me away. The humour was one aspect that especially impressed me......and what's funnier than a talking robot Potato?

I initially was going to just buy a potato and mould it, but I wanted a challenge. I've never tried organic building so I thought it would be fun.

I started off with finding a Picture of our good friend GLaDOS. I printed the pic off to what I believe is the appropriate scale and traced the shape of the potato onto a piece of paper.

I cut out the tracing and carved out the shaped onto a piece of .60 styrene.

Then I took two pieces of insulation foam and traced the shape onto them with a pencil.

The two foam pieces were then roughly cut on my chop saw.

I shaped the pieces using the sanding drum on my dremel and then glued them together with Gorilla glue.

After the glue dried I grabbed my orbital sander with some 40 grit attached and started shaping. Organic sculpting/carving is fun because you don't have to worry if it's asymmetrical! I spent about 20 minutes shaping then we arrived here....with a really blurry pic.

The foam was sealed with some mod podge and then it got a fair spread of Filler.

After some sanding and primer, I arrived here.

Now, I have no idea how this is going to turn out, but I'm hoping for the best! Thanks for reading and look for an update soon.

Nice, I got a little excited when i saw GLaDos and thought "naw, no one would be doing a life size build" but then i read the potato part and it made more sense.

Still cool!

Awesome! I got a resin casting of a real potato that someday I hope to convert into a PotatOS, haha.

I thought about buying a casting or moulding a potato, but I decided I get probably get more accuracy if I sculpted it by hand.

Did some more sanding/shaping yesterday and today I wet sanded the potato, starting with 600 grit and working my way up to 2000. There are some rough areas but it's a vegetable, so I wanted to have some dents and dings for realism. What's more realistic than a talking potato?

What do you guys think? Anything I should change? Does it look like a potato?

Would anybody be interested in a Glados Potato kit, including all the greebles and stuff?

Thanks for reading.

Looking great so far. :thumbsup I think it needs a little "chunky/gritty" looking dry brushing to give it that "just dug out of the ground" look. It's a little on the smooth side.

Cant wait to see what you have planned for the rest of the build. :cheers

Avolow.

Guys, this is just Wet sanded primer, not paint. I have yet to paint it, I'm thinking about moulding it.

Taking your image above, and rescaling it based on your print-out of the PoTaDOS, you can see the eye is too big. A quick rescale of the eye to 80% looks closer to your print out.
(I flipped the image to help me match the size)

Hope this helps

It actually helped a lot, thanks. Well, it's glued in now, I can't really change it. Eh, I'm not too worried about it.
