Ghostbusters (2016) (Post-release)

GB16 is going to be facing stiff competition with Star Trek Beyond and Ice Age both coming out today. With another Sci Fi classic and kids movie in theaters, Im really wondering what the total haul will be for GB16.

FWIW, Mattel says the toy line has 'exceeded expectations'. So mabe the Target clearance thing was a mistake.

When they don't release numbers and use 'exceeded expectations...' that could mean they just sold 500 instead of 50. according to reports, these things arn't moving.
i don't believe anything from this dumpster exceeded expectations other than the fact that it made money.

Now that the reboot toys are back at full price at Target, gues what? The reboot toys just sit there keeping the pegs warm. They didn't sell during the clearance sale, They are not going to sell now.

maybe we can buy 'em all and put 'em in a bon fire to exercise the demon of hatred known as pascal and feig from the ghostbusters franchise. and mcarthy and jones arn't much better.

you know...I sometimes wonder how much power over the franchise reitman gave up. ( I think Dan has left for crazy town at this point). and if any of that power shifted over to mcarthy and feig and pascal. maybe they are now the ones that can veto any other future GB projects.

Now there is a scary thought.

I sure seem to remember Force Awakens being up for pre-order awfully soon during the theatrical run, but yeah, I'm sure GB being up for pre-order is a definite sign of its failure.

They where afraid to go new places BECAUSE of the cartoon. they didn't even show the containment unit.

You'know I'm gonna say what I said awhile ago:if they want to do something REALLY different with GB then try and use Dan's original idea for Ghost Smashers, bring in Evo,make the Ecto 1 think for itself, run from the cops et cetera.

That first idea is weird enough to take people by surprise and could make a good film, hell I'd say go and make it less comedy and more serious,a real horror/sci-fi film.

I believe that more now because I think the only thing folks associate the GB franchise with is kid's stuff so it's either going to go that way or be an inane comedy so F it and go utterly the other way.

TFA was available for pre-order at FYE months BEFORE it's theatrical release.

Reboot is predicted to finish in fifth place this weekend:

Hopefully the reboot will do worst than $20 million and then fade away from being a pertinent issue of discussion.

It would be nice. it's already made far too much. although no one is reporting on UK second week box office numbers. maybe it only made $25 million there.

What's really fun though is watching the ghostbuster fan pages self destruct over this. especially the ones that have been more antagonistic toward classic defenders. none of them are reporting how great it did ;o). some are outright loosing it :)

So, they call ice age a flop with 25 million, but ghostbusters a success? never mind the fact that this is the FIFTH ice age movie i'd say that's pretty good.

Box Office Mojo reports UK totals to date as $5.7 million.

And yes, it is funny to watch the pro reboot GB pages crumble over the poor totals of the reboot. Did they really think the reboot was going to make SW TFA money? LMAO

:lol Man did this TANK :lol

I believe the term is 'trank'

although the new term is 'don't go full feig' or don't feig this up'

;o)

So, it only made 5 million in the UK in the last 6 days of week 2? or is that 5 million for ALL the world wide properties?
Last time it was $25 million for ALL the world wide properties, not just the UK :)

Like Ivan Reitman said, they are going to find a way to tie this new series with the originals, probably a parallel dimension plot. Then you get to see Dan, Ernie, and hopefully Bill suit up at least one last time.

I'm curious how Sony will regard this movie in about 2 years. Will they still be trying to support it?

They bailed on supporting the recent Fantastic-4 movie about halfway through the opening night. But Josh Trank helped that happen and it became a news story for how it was a hopeless mess.

Probably delusional so as to try and save what little face they have left. sad part is they believe it probably.

Looks like Ghotsbusters Imax screenings are all but done. only the big AMC theater chains have it in limited 3D showings.
could it be gone by next friday?

So....you made me look at how this is doing by seeing how's the showings in my local area....

Parkersburg,WV:? 3D only showing and only once in the day-9:10PM

Next one is at Marietta,OH and no 3D just 2D showing 1:15,4:15,7:00 and 9:30

............

It's dead,Jim.

ANY film on that schedule in my area is doing the suck basically, the new Star Trek is showing both 3D and 2D and at least twice a day for both, about the same for our capitol city Charleston, about the only place showing it a lot is Clarksburg.

In general if a film is only being shown in one format and in only one room in my area that means it's not going so well.

Neil, that is $5.7 million in total since the reboot was released there on July 11. Four days before the US release. And it opened to mostly empty seats in the UK.

And yes, I help run a GB franchise but our members want the reboot to fail.

I've been working all day trying to build a 3D subway by myself with nary abreak, so apologies if i'm reading this wrong. so, so far, we only have 1st week uk numbers if i'm reading this right, correct? or does that number include the second week as well?

maybe they already pulled it out of WW markets if it's really doing that poorly.

I'm going blind looking at dots all day and moving verticies...so maybe i did read that incorrectly :)
