George Lucas filmed a sequel to Rogue One

It’s called “A New Hope”.

My kids are tired of watching droids walking through the desert for hours...

I've introduced some younger people to the OT. I always tell them:

"20 minutes into the first movie you will be bored and wanting to quit. But that's the slowest part in the whole trilogy. The pace is picking up by 30-40 minutes. By the end of the first movie, I won't have to talk you into watching the next two."

The 15-minute conversation in slow motion between Luke and Leia on Endor runs a close second. The point could have been made in 30-60 seconds.

I don't think 60 seconds would have been adequate.

The scene we got could have been handled better. But the plot twist itself was too rickety for it to ever turn out very well.

I usually agree with the attitude of "Don't address story problems if you don't have to". But in the ROTJ situation I think they needed to. The audience had just been given a severe "WTF?" twist after 4+ hours of investment in the characters. The topic needed a few minutes of exploration. But the ROTJ scene was still a no-win situation for the script writer & director. It couldn't have been done with total success no matter what they did in ROTJ because the ground work wasn't there in ANH & ESB.

If Lucas hadn't want to wrap everything up, he could have let the secret be. Just my 2 bits.

As for this 'Rogue One' sequel, I dunno. The good guys are gone after the end of RO. So they are virtually starting over with new characters. And George Lucas is not the best fit for RO. The guy made crap like 'Howard the Duck' and he leans more kid-friendly in general.

I'm guessing this sequel will make decent money. But creatively it will be a retread. They will introduce another plucky gang of rebels to valiantly fight the evil Empire. Some young punk is gonna get a lightsaber and learn about the Force. Darth Vader will be thwarted at the end again. But of course Vader will survive at the end again for another sequel. (In fact the studio will probably demand that all the good guys stay alive this time. Everything has to be a franchise these days.)

I can only imagine where it's gonna go from there. In the next movie after this one, they will probably be running out of ideas and start doing big plot twists. Maybe Darth Vader will become a poor misunderstood victim of circumstances. Woke-ass modern Hollywood likes to pull stuff like that. Heroes & villians are too "traditional" and they have to deconstruct everything now. It's their leftist ideology. Morality is all relative and everything depends on a certain point of view.

If you don't love this movie you're not a real Star Wars fan. Its not even out yet and you're not singing its praises. You must be a homophobe.

I'm a 1:12 scale collector anyway, so I'll pass on these, but they look like trash.

Are those supposed to be the characters in that poster?

Whatever. Rogue One is trash. Ruined the Andor series with a follow up flick. TV shows never translate to Movies. Just felt like a 2 hour episode where they made another girl boss to focus on and wrote off their best character, Cassian, as a scowling nobody character.

SHOULDA BEEN CASSIAN AND BIX.

HARD PASS.

More like "A New NOPE"
