It’s called “A New Hope”.
My kids are tired of watching droids walking through the desert for hours...
I've introduced some younger people to the OT. I always tell them:
"20 minutes into the first movie you will be bored and wanting to quit. But that's the slowest part in the whole trilogy. The pace is picking up by 30-40 minutes. By the end of the first movie, I won't have to talk you into watching the next two."
The 15-minute conversation in slow motion between Luke and Leia on Endor runs a close second. The point could have been made in 30-60 seconds.
If Lucas hadn't want to wrap everything up, he could have let the secret be. Just my 2 bits.I don't think 60 seconds would have been adequate.
The scene we got could have been handled better. But the plot twist itself was too rickety for it to ever turn out very well.
I usually agree with the attitude of "Don't address story problems if you don't have to". But in the ROTJ situation I think they needed to. The audience had just been given a severe "WTF?" twist after 4+ hours of investment in the characters. The topic needed a few minutes of exploration. But the ROTJ scene was still a no-win situation for the script writer & director. It couldn't have been done with total success no matter what they did in ROTJ because the ground work wasn't there in ANH & ESB.
You guys don't like anything new because you're too cynical and negative.
George Lucas made this and it's Star Wars. By default I'm obligated to love it.
