I believe the back of the helmet should have a metal piece instead of the square. Tuskentrooper had Kenny machine a piece for his AT-ST helmet.

The square is the accurate detail. You are right about the rod being within the squares.
The rod is the last detail, kenny makes them eh? Ever cooler
