1) Would a 1976 Gelcoat have the same chemical composition as a modern one?

2) If not if I were to repair a 1976 Gelcoat with a modern one, would there be any issues, bonding, curing issues?
(meaning if I were to use a gelcoat with a different chemical composition on an existing Gelcoat with another chemical composition:wacko would that be a problem?)

3) Can I mix / tint the Gelcoat (before applying) with any type of paint like for exemple automotive paint to get the desired colour?

PS: I'm talking about Finish Gelcoat.

Any imput would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

What timing! I am finishing up repair of a boat. you should not have any problems with adhesion as the chemicals are the same now as then. You neet to get a Gel Coat tint kit. Most boat accessory shops or dealers have them.

Same probably not, similar and compatible sure...

Possibly but probably not if you do it properly, the steps you take and prep procedures are the most important steps... There are lots of forums devoted to boat repair, and those people have done it all so they are going to be your best resource...

No you need a pigment suspended in a compatible liquid... Most any fiberglass shop will sell the correct pigments...

Google up some boat forums, there is tons of information and people that have tons of experience repairing gelcoats and fiberglass boats... I have browsed many of them and there is a lot to be learned...
