So after reading several foam Iron Man threads and a couple of Gears of War foam armor threads I decided to give my own a shot. Big thanks to Trek 920 for the adivise and putting up with my general bugging. Also I wanted to let everybody know that the armor plate design is not mine I did use the pattern used my Trek 920 since this is my first ever scratch build its easier for me to learn by seeing and doing. But for my second build (I do plan on doing one, I will be doing my own syle armor) I do plan on adding some LED's for lighting effects. I also plan on adding pop rivets to the armor plating so when painted it adds to the effect. Here is a picture of what I accomplished last night. Its not much but I do have the basic shape of the checst plate cut out and as you can see I started to mark were the armor plates will go.

I'll be watching to see how it turns out, interested in using similar method for a King of the Dead costume

Thanks for the interest using the foam is a great way to make a costume when you are on a budget. I hope this turns out just as good as I hope it will.

I'm in the middle of a custom ODST variant with camping mat. I'm telling you, this is the way to go when it comes to first time builders and those on a budget. I love the Gears armor. Good luck, i book marked you and will probably be back and forth asking for tips.

so just a small update today. Last night I started to cut out the armor plates for the chest. I am about 90% done with this step. I also test fitted a pop rivet on a scrap piece of foam. I may have to get a longer rivet. I dont know if I like the foam being compressed as much as it is in this picture. I do plan on shaping the bottom of the vest to go along with the contour of the bottom plates. I still have to shape the shoulder straps (just plain rectangles will not work) I also want to add some plating and some greebles to the straps. Comments and constructive crit is ALWAYS welcome.
