FW190-A6 is done

Here's my Eduard's 1/48 FW190-A6. If you've never built an Eduard's kit, be prepared for a bit of a headache. The kit has great detail, but that seems to be the only upside. No two parts seem to fit the way they're supposed to.

There is no way you'd be able to build this kit with the engine panels in the closed position. The engine and gun assembly are just too physically large for their compartments. Parts just don't seem to go where they're supposed to, so you spend a lot of time making parts fit into "close-enough" locations and then fudging all the parts around it.

The instructions leave alot to be desired. In one step, they show a piece in one place and in the next step, it's somewhere else. They leave out painting instructions on some parts and some parts they have going in backwards.

The guy that did the line art for the decal sheet never talked to the guy that designed the kit. If you try to place decals in relation to panel lines, you're in trouble. The decal guy left out some panel lines and made up others. So you go to put a decal next to an access hatch only to find that it's not there. And then you find 4 panel lines that aren't on the kit.

But having said all that, here she is;

This was my first time with freehand camo and my first attempt at mottling, so if it's not perfect, you'll have to forgive me ;)

As always, comments and constructive criticisms are welcome.

Enjoy.

That looks nice!

I love WWII warbirds, wether Axis or Allies...

I have an old Airfix Ju-87 in 1/24 :eek that I've put on the back burner for about 2 years, but I'm thinkin' of getting back to it before the decals get too fubar'ed from age and whatnot to be useful...

I used to have pics, but methinks I deleted them :confused I'll snap a few and show you what I've got so far...

Considering the trouble you went through (and I can see what you mean about the engine and gun compartments) you did a heck of a job. I really love the detail you put into the cockpits of your aircraft...just amazing. :)

Sorry for the slight hijack...

An Eduard kit eh? Did it come with any PE parts? In 1/48, those can be a bear to work with...

Very nice. Bummer it did not fit that great but you pulled together a fine looking plane.

Funny, i have that very same Tamiya Modern solder on a mini display i did years ago. I had him carrying the M60 instead with the M-16/M204 on his back. Yours has much better camo then mine.

Thanks, Mike :). The pit and plant is where I usually spend most of my time during assembly, as they usually become focal points for most people - especially when a certain manufacturer makes the plant too big to hide behind cowl panels :lol.

Gunner, I'd love to see what that Junker would look like all finished up. You've done an incredible job on the office and engine, so far :thumbsup.
