Functional wing ideas?

Hi, first time poster here. I am looking to make a set of functional wings for a cosplay at next years Dragoncon. I'm doing a bit of research and I stumbled upon a website via youtube: imakewings home The website offers automated functional wings but are a bit pricey and I'd be more interested in making my own. I was wondering if anyone out there has the schematics for these beauties!? Thanks in advance for any posts/links etc.

Thanks, I hadn't seen those threads, a lot of the content in them is stuff I've already found googling and youtubing the idea.

Has anyone made wings? I'm looking to make the metallic x-force angel wings. But not so much this: http://infiniteammodotnet.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/ec-x-force_archangel.jpg

I prefer http://comic-books.tumblr.com/image/22984458164. Perhaps I'm biting off a bit more than I can chew for my first cosplay but I want to start off right, with a character I really enjoy.

So some follow up questions are, should I try to go automated wings or stick with the pulleys? I'm really looking for any advice what so ever. Thanks again.

look at using pneumatic actuators.
