Full Scale Iron Monger Finished (pg 3)

Mornin' guys.

So a couple of months back a friend of mine asked if was capable of building an Iron Monger. I jokingly told him "probably, but I'd be rather hesitant to do it."

Well now a couple hundred dollars later, I find myself nearly done with the legs of the costume for him. This is all scratch build and has been a big of an engineering nightmare for me. I've learn so much along the way and will probably continue to learn even more.

So far I have learned to work with:
Stilts
pvc skeletons
plywood feet
electronics
completely scratch building detailed shapes and armor.

I wanted to make this thing 1:1 scale. I know alot of people cheat on that part, but I hate myself and well.... no that's about it. I just hate myself.

So without further ado, here are my wips of my Iron Monger project.

I'll be posting up more photos next week as I start work on the chest area.

Sorry I don't post much, been super busy working on these guys. Legs are finally done and are delivered. I'll start working on the torso this weekend.

Re: Full Scale Iron Monger (Legs done!) (WIP)

I've got to ask, how's the functionality? It seems like it'd be hard to walk, especially given how far apart the legs are.

this is gonna be hyyooogggeee!!
excited to see the progress on this one!

Thanks everyone, this has been a huge undertaking for me so far, and to be honest a very humbling experience. I hope I'm doing the RPF proud.

Ahh yes the crux of the matter. At around 30 pounds a foot, walking is limited at best. I would have made them lighter, but this also doubles as a free standing statue when not worn. Really what were hoping is for the actor to mostly be standing there in suit, not really moving around to much, just the upper body.
Also note, when worn the legs are much closer together, as a statue they will fit this width.

Thanks, I'm working on the torso now, hopefully in the next few days I'll post up more pics.

that is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

Wow! Impressive, but........I hope you own a barn, airplane hanger, sports dome, or it better be weather proof and bird proof or you're going to need a tarp.....a really big tarp.:lol

Re: Full Scale Iron Monger (Legs done!) (WIP)

cool stuff bro, if i was your friend i'd start shaving my head and growing a beard to really commit for the suit ;)

will look out for this one, looks awesome :thumbsup

Luckily this will be inside a 15 foot tall area. So no need to worry!

I've passed the idea to him already, along with shouting completely hammy lines, he's....tempted.

So sorry guys for the lack up updates lately. Im currently working on the torso atm, hopefully I'll get some good shots up tomorrow. I've taken a few days (more like weeks) off the project due to work and other time crunches, but I'm getting back into full build mode this weekend and not stopping till the new year.

Re: Full Scale Iron Monger (Legs done!) (WIP)

Very cool. It probably can be used for the rhino armor in the new spidey too

This thing is gonna be huge! Can't wait to see it finished!

cool whole suit going to be super, hate to trip and fall :D

This actually is one of my biggest fears. I've had nightmares about this as right now there is a plywood ring in the hip to support the upper half, if the the wearer falls the damage that thing could do...

Anyway. More progress in this dead thread! Chest is nearing completion. As you can see I'm pretty freakin horrible at taking WIP photos. How do others do it? I normally spend so much time working on something I don't really remember to take photos.

Still need a lot of work to do on the chest. But I think putting in the spacers/covers in the armpits will help the overall shape. Once I get that done I need to make a neck cavity where the neck and head will be installed. Then I'll take care of the Arc mount, which is probably the weakest looking area right now. I'll probably tear that out and redo it as I'm not terribly happy with it.

Currently the chest and hip section are standing around 4 1/2 feet. With the head, and groin area installed I think itll be around 5 feet total. with the 6 foot legs, and about a foot loss for lining everything up right, I think i'll be right at my 10 mark without much issue.

Re: Full Scale Iron Monger (Chest nearly done!) (WIP)

Nice work. But I gotta ask, are you doing a custom order for this guy???

Re: Full Scale Iron Monger (Chest nearly done!) (WIP)

Torso on suit test. Sadly still quite small. but as this is going to be debut at megacon, I have no time to redo it. I've got Acrylic globes coming in this week that I will be using for the base of the arms, Untill then i'm going to be finishing up the torso. SO much to do in the next few days. 1620526_10153838317775105_1799005577_n.jpg1796594_10153838318285105_28620544_n.jpg148272_10153838319400105_1001415187_n.jpg1619530_10153838318985105_229035307_n.jpg1459752_10153838319130105_1934927181_n.jpg1779824_10153838318625105_2037146493_n.jpg

Re: Full Scale Iron Monger (Chest nearly done!) (WIP)

this is one cool build good luck man!
Thank you, I think I'm going to need all the luck I can get finishing this by Megacon.
Luckily I already felt luck come my way as I was able to correct the lower arc mount and finally shape the circle into the chest. This to me has been the most stressfull piece as it need to be near perfect, as it is one of the only shapes people seem to remember about the Iron monger. Now that I have this I can plug in the arc mount and the arc reactor and be ok.

I'll probably have this chest finished by tomorrow or Wed. From there I need to make the skeleton for support and to mount the arms to. So much to do in such a small amount of time. 1231074_10153843317710105_242892819_n.jpg
