Froud-ish Snoozing Goblin Sculpt (Labyrinth/Dark Crystal-esque)

Not sure if this qualifies, not being a replica of anything specific, but it's certainly a sculpture with an indirect link to a number of indisputably cool movies. Please let me know if this is inappropriate (new user, still getting a feel for the forum).

My dad has a steadily growing collection of odd ornaments in his garden. They're there primarily for the entertainment of his grandkids, but he definitely gets a geeky kick out of the strange little world he's building up out there. For Christmas, I thought it would be nice to get him something to add to his collection, but couldn't find anything that really fit the bill. I was looking for a gargoyle/goblin type creature that wouldn't look out of place heckling Sarah in The Labyrinth, but there's not much out there, and what there is is insanely expensive. Plan B: DIY.

I decided I'd be making something in the style of Brian and Wendy Froud, without directly copying any specific design. I was aiming for something somewhere between a large pebble and a sleeping goblin or troll, which could be secreted in a rockery or amongst some plants. My first port of call was Google Images, which threw up a wealth of reference material.

Second stop was my local art supplies shop (Rennies on Bold Street, Liverpool), where I picked up a pack of Super Sculpey.

I figured the sculpt would have to be hollow, so as to cook through evenly, so I inflated a plastic sandwich bag and wrapped thin sheets of Sculpey around it, leaving a 1" hole at the bottom. I then built the facial features up on top of the basic "head". Once I was happy with the overall sculpt, I burst the sandwich bag and pulled it out through the hole. Baked in a pre-heated oven for 35-40 minutes.

Once cooled, I washed the sculpt in soapy water to remove any oily residue from the surface. Once dry, I applied a series of washes with my old, long-neglected Citadel inks. (mostly browns and greens). Finally, I drybrushed the teeth in grey, with white highlights.

So here he is - my first ever attempt at sculpting:

Interesting sculpt. I like it, would be cool to see a whole bunch of these guys, each a little different scattered around the garden.

You have inspired me. I have a flower garden that is shaded and thought about a goblin village. Your goblin looks great.
