hi guys i thought i might post this us to get your reactions and see what you think. halloween is always a big thing for me and my house mates so this year i decided to be one of my all time favourite movie characters 'frank' from donnie darko, i was simply going to buy a cosume but they were very expensive and well i didn't like the look of the mask or the actual suit lol so decide to make one for myself. (pictures at the bottom of the thread as i couldn't fit them in the right place please bear with my blabing lol )
first step was to make the mask so i started by making a clay positive, i used to be an art student many a year ago and clay was what i specialised in so it went together quickly, just used scrunched up tin foil to make a rough shape then went over with clay
second step was to make the negative, this was a simple alginate mixture which was then covered in mod rock to give it strength ( the image with the pink is the alginate)
next was to remove the mold and fibre glass it which took a little longer than expected and the ears didn't come out of the mold properly hence why the cast has no ears lol so i simply got some more tin foil bent them to the correct shape and mod rocked them up then attached them to the head and fibre glassed them on
paint and filler, once the mask was all securly attached i then used car body filler to to smooth out and holes the mask was already smooth on the outside as the fibre glass had been moulded to the alginate mould. i then trimed the inside and pva glued wading to the inside to let it rest comfortably on my face and used clothing elastic to make a harness for my head, the mask is simply painted in black and white acrylic paint which i mixed to the colours i want ( just to bear in mind i did paint it on halloween as i left it very late to finish it off)
whilst i was making the mask i also hand stitched the suit myself, i bought some fur of ebay (grey and long shag white), i made the suit using a very simple body design consiting of 4 panels, one for each arm, and one for my left and one for my right. for the main body i measured myself up to make sure everything was gonna be big enough and i would have enough room to move around, sit down etc the suit was sown inside out to hide the stitching. it was basically 2 big tubes sewn half way up then joined at the crotch sewn a little more than the white chest piece added and the zip on the back then the arms were added( the hands well simply shaped fromt he ends of the arms, and i didnt have time to add claws ) and then a basic hood was attached to the mask and that was it.
sorry if i rambled abit and sorry in advance for not posting the pics in order and missing out some of the pics especially with building the suit, but hope you enjoyed it
