The wide part of the belt was taken from a typical westler's/weight-lifter's belt used in high schools at the time (1955); the boxes were adapted small jewelry cases.

What I want to know, is what were the boxes on the right side of the body suppose to be? In some photos they have the battery box, like on the radio, but in other photos there is no battery box Maybe the battery box was for show, the radio box had one, so it would look better if the right side box did too. It is just a crying shame that none of this was documented.

There were actually at least 3 different ones. They were made very quickly by the props dept and were just for background show. Unlike the "command mike" communicators they had no lights or moving parts.

What was the reaction at the convention? And what material did your wife use?

Funny thing most of the "kids" at Comic-Con had no idea what it was. Kathy made it from a wool twill, basically heavy suit fabric we bought at International Silks and Woolens in LA. Same fabric the originals were made from.

I had always considered the short sleeved shirt to be more dress uniform than the more recognized duty uniform and cap.

(I want this "crusher" cap!)
But, as seen here, I guess it could be used for both.

I have E-mailed the only person I know who has the "Crush" officers dress cap, Bill Malone about it and He hasn't had time to answer, for what ever reason, but my interview notes of 20+ years ago show that He said it was like a "Beret with a slightly long Officers' visor". I've been exploring this concept for a number of years, but for whatever reason, I'm not getting it quite right.
Hi Bob, The "A" uniform I got to examine that Jerry Neeley had belonged to Jack Kelley and it was not high cut on the sides like the one You have. It went straight across th bottom.
If You get a chance Bob, give me a call if You would please. May be You have an Officer's cap in Your collection since, as I understand it, Bill Malone sold off some of His extra items a while ago..

Hi Brian, Does anyone have any closeup pics of these boxes? In one scene I saw lights on the communications box. The upper part of the command mike box is silver and the upper box of the other one is gold mesh [speaker or ventilation of some kind?] and both had flat black [battery?] pouches.

Boxes are just clear plastic pin boxes out of your moms sewing kit No really, that's what they used.
