Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress. FINISHED!!!!...

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress. Started painting!!..

Beautiful! It's rare to get something this spectacular with metallic paint just sprayed on, but all those details look so nice and sharp.

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress. Started painting!!..

Unfreakinbelievable...... that looks so good painted. I found a metal pen/whole punch to draw my lines on my Iron Patriot helmet instead of using a pencil or pen. Worked and looks great.

This will look sick weathered!!!

Looking good! I am loving it!

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress. Started painting!!..

I don't watch Stargate, but this work is so well done I had to comment!
This looks boss!:cool
I may have to use the latex paint method of yours.
Latex paint is a lot more reasonably priced.

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress. Started painting!!..

I am constantly amazed by the things people can construct using foam! It really is a versatile material! This is a spectacular build Sir!

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress. Started painting!!..

Thanks as always guys, I really appreciate it.
I did the eyes today, I made them inside ketchup bottle lids, that way the foam will keep its shape over the years.
All I need to do now is add the black mesh so the wearer can see out but the fans can not see in, and then add the beaded threads.

Absolutely fantastic! I love all of the Stargate series' so I may end up doing one of these at some point

I also loved your R2 build, would 1" plastic conduit/pipe have worked for the internal support rather than the the timber (this is another thing I'd like to build LOL)

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress. Started painting!!..

Wow...just Wow! I would not have thought foam at all, everything is so crisp.

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress. Started painting!!..

Thank you all, Yes pipe would work for the inside of R2, and on my next one I may go that route. It would make the thing even lighter I reckon.

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress. Started painting!!..

Damn! That's impressive. I'm a big Stargate fan. Makes me want to make my own.

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress. Started painting!!..

thanks for the reply

was your Wall-E made from a pattern or scratch built? I reckon my grandkids would love him

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress. Started painting!!..

You're welcome. Wall-e was made for the most part freehand, but I was able to get some measurements from the wall-e builders group. I should still have them somewhere if you are interested.

Holy socks! That is one incredible build you've got there, familyman! My brother and I have been wanting to do Horus and Anubis guard costumes for a while now. With the expansive knowlege base of foam building I've seen lately on this forum, I feel much less intimidated by the builds.

Did you by chance use foam pep file in JFcustom's thread to make this? And would you be willing to share your details templates with other builders? Also, where do you get your foam from?

Sorry for all the newb questions. I'm just starting with foam builds.

I used 3 pieces from JFcustom's pep file just to help me get the sizing right, the head is all my own handmade templates.
I am trying to put a template section up on my website, I have a lot of people wanting templates. It is taking a while to get it done but I will be working on it. Thank you. Glad you like the build.

Awesome. I'm looking forward to it. :D

Wow, looks great. You've done an awesome job with the proportions and overall look of the headpiece. I'd recommend toning down your metallics with some thinned down washes of dark dark blue/black on the silver and dark orange/black on the gold. Then drybrushing techniques to bring out metallic highlights. Do a search for mini painting techniques for some ideas on making strong realistic metallics. I'm not trying to criticize your work, it already looks seriously awesome! A bit more work on the paint could push it into unbelievable territory!

MM.
