FN M240 General Purpose Machine Gun

Printed (but not yet post processed) the carry handle (rotates 90 degrees), top cover, and buttstock rear parts. Everything fits as designed. The Picatinny rails on the bottom front heat shield will need to be redone. No biggie.

Once everything is printed and pretty much fits together, I will start sanding/filling.

A bit of an update. I printed off the hub of the bipod and one leg to check fit and functionality. There is another part, besides the foot, that goes on the leg, to lock the leg in the deployed position, which locks into the hub. The bipod will retract and fold into the stowed position. I made a provision for a spring steel wire to force out the bipod legs into the deployed position.

This is so awesome, I was a 240B gunner 17 years ago. It sucked to carry, but always worked. I would love to have something like this to display in my house. Great job.

Thanks for serving and thanks for the compliment. I've heard that there is great love for this weapon in all services. A hell of a lot more reliable than the M60.

Good stuff man (y) (y) Where are you gonna house the spring? Partially inside that piece or completely outside?

Test fitting the bipod. There still are feet, supports and clips that have to be added, but it supports the weight of the prop well. Plus the carry handle needed a bit more weight forward so that it can be carried balanced. There is a lot of weight in that buttstock.

Piano wire was formed into a torsion spring to force the legs of the bipod open, which will aid in the stowage of the bipod as well with that thingamajig above the yellow tape fitting into each side of that slot.

Pretty well coming to the end of the design. A couple of more small parts and it will be ready. I think I'll post the Bravo version on Cults3D and put up separate downloads for different versions as add-ons at a later date. It'll be a lot of sanding to get the FDM parts done.

The bipod. The legs are a bit thicker than the real one, but since they are 3d printed, concessions had to be made.

Working on the rear sight. I'm going to make the slide on the site as one piece. The latching mechanism is too much work and will probably be too flimsy as such a small piece.

The actual sight.

What I've done so far. I still have to make adjustments.

Looking good for sure:cool::cool:(y)(y):notworthy::notworthy: Was there any engineering tricks to strengthen the bipod? You know, with additional triangles inside the slotted legs to make it sturdier.
