Hello everyone, new around here, and have really been wowed by a lot of the stuff I'm seeing here. Started this project at the beginning of the month, and have most of the stuff I need, and am busily working on construction. I have a white body suit and shoes, have sanded, bondoed, padded and painted the helmet, and have constructed the templates for the armor. I just finished the toga and belt.

Next up, after my eyes uncross, I'll be adding the reflective tape details to the helmet.

Thanks to MrSinistar, whose R+D info has been an invaluable tool.

Some of the details are iffy, but I'm satisfied enough for now to move on. If there's time left once everything else is done I may do some tweaking.

I've also finished the small pad for the left wrist. The paint on the arm pads and right gauntlet is currently drying. Just under two weeks till Tron Night, and then a full weekend of Halloween!

Flynn costume: updated pics!!

Okay, so the wrist gauntlets are done, save for the edging on the big one, and the upper arm pieces are done as well, except for some edging. Here's pics of them with a flash.

The boot covers are in the process of being sewn. Still have to do the circuitry on the body suit. The first costume party is this Saturday now, so the time crunch is REALLY on!!

Flynn costume with new pics

Okay, two and a half days until Tron Night! Didn't get done in time for the party last weekend, but didn't make it to the party anyway, so no big.

Finished all of the armor pieces, and have started painting the body suit. Did a test fitting this evening to make sure it's all coming together the way I hoped.

Definitely need to do another coat on the fabric paint, and the belt/toga combo aren't sitting properly, largely because he shoulder cups aren't attatched (one isn't even present) so I had to stand at a funny angle.

Comments?

The disk does sit under the toga, I didn't realize it had crept out until after the shots were taken.

Saw 20 mintues of finished footage of tron legacy tonight, and my excitement for this continues to mount. It looks like all the right pieces are in place, story visuals AND characters, so here's hoping they deliver a home run!

Now that I've worn the costume for a couple hours there are a couple of tweaks I'm gonna make before hitting the party circuit this weekend, mainly securing some of the armor pieces and the toga more securely.

Epic costume, dude! :D What did you use for the forearm gauntlets and did you cut them? They look dead on!!

The boots look really great too! Do you know what type of shoe did you end up using?

Also, thanks for the mention! Glad my R+D helped out other people. :)

Thanks for the kind words.

The large arm gauntlet is made for the same puzzle tile foam as the helmet liner, as is the disk. The small gauntlet is craft foam. The shoes are ten dollar slip ons from Wal-Mart. They had black piping around the soles, which I spray painted white.

Best Tron character costume I think I've ever seen GREAT JOB dude! :)

Too bad you cant have the circuits on the pants made of the same reflective stuff thats on the armor and helmet.

BTW someone had a few of the original 70's foam frisbees used for these costumes... Jedifyfe?

Would definately be a great upgrade from your home made disc. Not that it looks bad. I just think with all the effort you have put into this awesome costume that would be the icing on the cake! ;)

I had looked at making the body suit circuitry reflective as well, but it was beyond my budgetary/time constraints. Same with obtaining a proper frisbee and arm pads. I snagged the shoulder cups for a buck (!) on Ebay, as well as the helmet, but the only time i saw the arm pads they were waaaaaay out of my price range. I realized from the start I was going to have to make compromises if I was going to actually pull the project together in time.

There literally hasn't been a day in the last month that I haven't worked on this thing. In the end I'm super pleased with the way it came out, inaccuracies and all.

And I'm even more pleased I'm not embarrassed to wear it in public. (Did I mention I lost ten pounds in the last month as well? lol.)

A small part of me hopes I help to erase the haunting specter of the image of Tron Guy from people's mind when they think of tron costumes...

Here's the fris I just finished, it's a Wham-O EZ Spin, which is bigger than the '78 foam disc they used but still comparable. It was a really easy build; if you are interested in the sticker templates let me know.

Your costume is awesome, I might have to try gauntlet.

Thanks for the offer, and I may take you up on it eventually, but I'm looking forward to NOT working on this costume for a while! :lol

Woo hoo! Came in first in the costume contest at the party I went to!

The prize money ALMOST covered the cost of the costume. :rolleyes
