Flexible resin?

I've used smooth-on C-1509 but they changed it to TASK 11:

TASK® Series Liquid Plastics - Performance Casting Resins | Smooth-On, Inc.

Great stuff but I had to paint it with acrylics because it gave more than the lacquers I'm use to. However, you can use the smooth-on casting powders and also so-strong tints with it.

I bought some TASK resin a few years ago to play around with and unless my batch was 'bad', the stuff smelled so bad I couldn't stand using it. Even the finished cured pieces still smelled awful.

Sounds like one of your measurements might have been off.. Usually for me, if there is too much of part B, it will do that.

as a rubber, how well does it take paint, or do you tint it? Does it take Smooth-On's line of tints?

All smooth-on resins will take their line of color tints and powders.

smooth-on also has color tints for their dragon skin silicone.

Smooth-On Flex Foam 25 is great too... I use it for hard parts that need to flex. Case and point, when I start my Iron Man build, I'm using it for the mid section and cod, as well as the joint armor; and it takes various paints very, very well.

I believe a member uses the flex-foam for making
his Halo ODST armor

I received a email from Smooth-On - Mold Making and Casting Materials for a World of Applications!
with instructions on how to paint urethane rubber.
it gives me an idea or two, Hope it helps some of your projects

Using Brush-On 40 To Paint Urethane Rubber
Urethane rubber is an excellent choice for casting props or costume pieces which require high abrasion resistance and durability. The challenge is finding a paint which will adhere to the surface of the urethane casting.

Some of our customers have found that our Brush-On 40 urethane rubber has excellent adhesion properties and can be used as a paint for urethane rubbers when combined with So-Strong pigments and thinned with mineral spirits.

The pigments must be added to the rubber before the solvent is added, and for this reason, small batches of rubber should be mixed.

In the following example, Brush-On 40 is thinned with mineral spirits, brushed and airbrushed onto the surface of a Reoflex 30 casting.

The frog was cast into a Smooth-Sil 910 mold, making release agent unnecessary. If a release agent were used, it would need to be thoroughly removed from the piece using an appropriate solvent before a casting could be painted.
