First Predator Build

Hello everyone,

I have to say that I love this site, I have been studying it for a week now. A lot of tips and reference materials, really helping me a lot.

Now, i know time is short, but I plan to make a build for the coming Holloween.

I plan to make the Half Shield chest plate armor and the P1 helmet.

I went out and bought some materials. I plan to use EVA foam puzzle mats for the armour (about 15 $ for 12 30X30cm pieces), I also have a softer EVA yoga mat to use for flexible areas around the shins and gountlets. I also have some syntetic leather I stripped off a mate metalic gray bag, my girlfriend wanted to throw, so I have some good size pieces for the leather bottom and groin area, plus a leather belt I want to use for the chest and backpack pieces to strap on.

I will be starting the project tonight, once get hold of a smal dremmel tool(about 10 $).

I still have a few things missing such as latex and material for the dreads. I wanted to get some advice from experienced hunters.

Latex: I plan to use it for the face, chest & back area and hands/feet. Can anyone tell me how much latex, aproximately, you used for the face and chest areas, in gallons or liters?

It's preety expensive in my area so to get on a budget I will cover my chest and face while for my arms and legs I will use body paint.

Dreads: I was not able to find any backer rods in my area, only in a different city where you could only buy 100 meter rolls. Other than crafting them from latex, can you recommend a different material?

I was thinking of using a soft EVA mat, cut strips, heat them a bit and try to roll them into a cylinder shape. Think that would work?

Other that that, I am preety much set. I will post pics in the future with the progress I make.

Thanks.

Another question regarding the Latex. I found some cheaper bottles for 25$ a liter. It's called Latex or rubber milk. Any of you worked with this material before?
On the description is says that for painting 35 layers with a brush it needs 24 hours of drying and I should get a skin like leayer. Not sure how thick.

I personally wouldn't go with that since you can get a Gallon of liquid latex on amazon for about 40 - 50$ and one gallon is about 3 liters ... so I'd just go with liquid latex.

Hello again, guys,

I've made some progress, gathered some materials and started building. I am little behind for Holloween, but I'll speed up and finish in time. Here are some pics:

The skull I'll be using for the right shoulder mount, I will add some horns to it.

I will start glueing and painting the items that I have so far, then build a basic backpack and attach a fake security camera with motion activation for the cannon. Later this week I hope to finish my armour and start work on a papekura helmet and upper body suit latexing.

Hope to post some more soon.

Worked some more on the lower and upper suit and the backpack. Pics below:

Seeing your backpack I would be careful it's quite close to the head the dreads might catch it and break it or hinder the movement. But looking good otherwise I like the idea of the fake camera.

I am not going to worry about the dreads. I could not find any backer rods or similar stuff, so for halloween i'll improvise with a some threads of rope painted black. I'll work in a slow but steady pace on the suit after halloween.

Uploading more pics after the paint job. Still have to get the helmet done, so little time :(

you are making impressive progress but that is very ambitous to make all of this in a month. as you know, mine took a year of evenings. If I were you, since you have such a nice start on the armor, take your time and build a really nice suit and plan on next halloween. It just takes time to make dreds, and dred rings are very time-consuming. Sculpting a head and making a bodysuit, not to mention hands and feet, just takes time and ability. Looking at your work thus far, I think you have the ability :)

I know what you mean. I plan to keep and improve this build. I really wanted to finish (and will) before Halloween, my workplace is doing a contest and wanted to join (I won 2nd place last year with a Daft Punk costume). I was planning to start earlier, but I think it's come up nice for 15 days of work.

Anyway, I continued to work on it, I painted the armor with silver mate spray, I painted a long sleeve tight shirt with acrylic paint to get the upped body, did the same to the gloves.

I was planning to use the P1 bio helmet pepakura files, but the Copy Store did me wrong and printed them too small. So i just made a custom bio helmet using symmetry and imagination... I only need to paint it (don't think i have time to attach the trilaser led) and make some short dreads. That would be it, and I am finished.

Here are more pics. Did not photo the painted armor, sorry.

this is my first post on the site. hope u were able to build ur suit with minimal difficulty. i began building my suit about a month ago and altho i admit to a few shortcuts, it looks pretty good. i used eva foam mats from home depot for all armor on the suit. i love the fabrication of this stuff btw. i bought an anotomical muscle suit (spandex 2nd skin costume0 from a local halloween store, full body fishnet body stocking ordered from amazon, backing rods for the dreads ordered from walmart online, rubies pred mask with bio helmet from amazon, and i was lucky enough to find an opened predator costume in another halloween strore for $50 (the costume otself is cheezy as hell but i was able to take off the rubber armor pieces and pred hands and incorporate it into my suit). all in all i had a blast building this suit and it looks pretty good. before some modifications made to the suit, i took 2nd place at a local town halloween contest and took over a hundred pics with people who loved the suit. good luck and post pics.

I am finished. Only skypped 2 hours from work to get the details done. I'll post some pics during the day.

Pics from work Halloween.
