First look at AvP 2 !!!

the gun was jumped i spose a bit to tear apart the image and movie....i have sort of high hopes for this sequel..

AVP was bad....the actors pissed me off first and foremost....they were all terrible, even the hero.

the changes to the preds was to extreme....i didnt even dig alot of the armor.....i did like the helms and weapons [cept for the canons].....i didnt mind the beef up in size, but i do hate the extra teeth and soft emotions designed in the sculpt and made with the animatronics...

the aliens were pretty cool to me......but the exaggerated tail and arms doesnt sit well....so in other words i was ok with the heads...but the bodies sucked.

the plot was lame, the idea of the lame giant shoulder canons had such an important scene PISSES me off...lol

the human deaths were utterly retarded...

and the way the hero chick unfolds is more corny and lame than my dad in a dress..

I would like to address a few opinions expressed here so far. Firstly, all of these are opinions and everyone is entitled to them. I love the Predator and Alien films, some more than others for various reasons. I appreciate the varied styles and changes that make each and everyone of them unique, both in the Preds and Aliens. As to why they change them from movie to movie thats simple...if you were told you could make a new movie for these franchises but couldnt do anything new, what would be the point? Just rewatch your favorite scene and NEVER do anything new. This attitude would still have us thinking Adam West is the definitive Batman.(shudder) I personally could NEVER relate to the original predator because he was so tall and lean...looked cool, but as a costumer I was left out in the cold(I am stubby and fat) While I dont much care for the story of AVP, I liked the look of the Predators because for once I felt as a costumer here was a way I could participate in the pred costuming and not have anal fanboys without costumes tell me that I couldnt wear my little rubber monster suit and play in the sandbox with the other kids. As a species/race/society, we have tall people, short people, skinny people, fat people, white people, black people, and so on, why cant preds have different looks? I got news for you, at least in the USA there are more thick body types (fat like me)than there are thin people, so dont be so quick to crap on a design that may appeal to someone who can relate to the shape for a change.
It doesnt take a rocket scientits to see why people like certain characters over others, short guys like Wolverine, tall guys like Superman, fat guys like Batman in rubber armor to hide thier body fat...its all pretty simple math really. I get so tired of hearing all the crap about predators HAVE to be only one way...if thats the case then there should only be one model kit, one armor style and NO ONE should ever get to make an original design of a Predator ever again because they must ALL look exactly like the P1 as portrayed by Kevin Peter Hall and none of you can wear the suits because none of you are clones of him. As a costumer and collector I love the fact there are several styles to choose from and enjoy collecting my favorite ones in costume form and in a variety of the props.
How about we allow for the differences and enjoy getting to see new stuff once in a while. What am I saying...if people could do that then we wouldnt kill one another over religious differences or the color of our skin.
I say if you dont like what the studios are doing, then by all means show us all how its done and make a multimillion dollar movie so we can see how you would do it. Sandy Collara made his visions of how he would portray a lot of our fav characters, so it can be done if you really want to bad enough.(and dont try to take ME to school about that production, I know some of the folks that worked on that one personally) Endless hours of griping and speculation over one photo most likely isnt gonna get YOUR vision made.
I am sure I will ruffle a lot of feathers by expressing these opinions but hey, a lot of what's been already expressed ruffled mine...god bless free speech.

Amen

No matter who makes the film, produce's it, edit's it, or writes the story line ETC. Not everyone is going to be happy. We as fans will find fault in it, its our nature. This film unfortunately will be no different. When it comes to fans there is no perfect film.

AMEN mike.........well spoken man,

i for one am sick of the "cannon" predator lore.
some on the lair dont like my big red suit because it isnt "canon"...........get over it guys..........
i dropped out of the 501st for a while because "everything" needed to be canon..........that sucks, because it strangles personal artistic flair.
i joined the pred community because preds are supposed to be "individuals"..........case in point:big red.
oooohh,......."the plasmacaster needs to be on the other shoulder".........wtf ????...dont you guys have real jobs/lives ?
i think its ******** that fans are already bagging AVP2 because of looking at one fekkin photo...........
gees, some of you fans need to drink less coffee,or try to relax a lil methinks..........
i prefer the look of the AVP predators over the original predators.
the animatic face of the P2 looked waaaay fake in my opinion.
the look of the original pred was flawless (again,my own opinion only)
the AVP predators looked incredible i think.
if any fans could put together a better script/story/film in time for a deadline,id be keen to see the results.
i was 16 once, and loved to hear the big boys say "****-you"....nowadays,im sick of that crap.i prefer a decent film over "****-you" type flicks.
some of us saw predator in the theatre when they were young & single.
surprise,surprise,...........some of us grew up since then, and have wives,kids,jobs,responsibiltys...etc............
roll on AVP2,.........and congratulations to the bro's for putting this film together..........

kia ora from new zealand...........

i definatley agree about the whole cannon issue! those who are sitting there dissing this photo because of the preds cannon on the left should get a life-like someone said preds are individuals an may have different skills/abilities/preferences!

also for the plums saying the alien looks 5hit - these guys are sfx editors so they're not going to let you see a puppeteres head in the costume in the film are they!! (i couldnt beleave it when i saw people dissing the photo just cause of that!)

i think the photo and what we have heard from the Strause brothers sounds awesome!! (i.e-going back to roots and prefering P1& alien/aliens) they seem cool blokes an i have high hopes for this film! im also (like i know others are) are really looking forward to the hype, trailers, toys, etc, etc!

lets all be positive! :)

Yeah, thanks. From 7 a.m. Monday morning until 6 p.m. Friday, I have a "life." So I think it's quite acceptable if I want to dork-out for the weekend. I don't care which side of the character the cannon is mounted to. So long as what is mounted isn't over bearing overkill and fits within the theme of the character.

also for the plums saying the alien looks 5hit - these guys are sfx editors so they're not going to let you see a puppeteres head in the costume in the film are they!! (i couldnt beleave it when i saw people dissing the photo just cause of that!)

What are you talking about? It has nothing to do with puppeteers; it has everything to do with the fact that the Alien costume looks rediculous. I had no real idea of what "over-sculpting" was until I saw that picture. I can believe people were "dissing" the suit because they've obviously seen the previous Alien films, and that is a ******* charicature compared to it's predescessors.

i think the photo and what we have heard from the Strause brothers sounds awesome!! (i.e-going back to roots and prefering P1& alien/aliens)
That's the same horse **** we were fed the first time. Especially about the "going back to their roots" part.

I agree with you there. Nothing needs to be screen accurate or "cannon" with the Predator. Each character is an individual, and doesn't need to be a P1 all the time. But my opinion is that it needs to fit within certain parameters. It has to fit in with what we've seen so far. Otherwise it's going to look too "out there" and unrecognizeable as a Predator. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

Secondly, I am not a fan of Big Red, and I do not feel that it's fair that I'm crucified everytime I say so. You have a fantastic suit, and I think it's silly that you get irked just because a few of us don't like the character.

i prefer the look of the AVP predators over the original predators.

Yes. I agree the puppet head for P2 was hoakey. But the redesign of the Predator for P2 was nicely executed- making him look even more like a monster. Not an overly articulate cartoon to please the 13-15 year old audience- making it seem more "human."

some of us saw predator in the theatre when they were young & single.

While some of us weren't so lucky, and had to settle for VHS. I am very passionate about the movies that I watch and the characters that are in them, and if I sound like a dick when I raise my voice towards changes that I disagree with, well then. Oh well. That's just my opinion.

then by all means show us all how its done and make a multimillion dollar movie so we can see how you would do it

I will one of these years, and you better be ready because there isn't anyone around today that could play Aragami. I will add my little piece to the Predator mythos... albeit I'll most likely still be living in my Parents house... but nonetheless!!! Just give me a few years. :)

yes but surely with the directors being sfx editors the creatures will look 100 times better in the film rather than in a movie-still thats been released 10 months before the films even due for release! IMO nobody can 'diss' a film thats unfinished purely because the alien looks a little too ' charicature' in a pre-release pic !

That's the same horse **** we were fed the first time. Especially about the "going back to their roots" part.

an im sorry for saying that if people have already been 'fed horse ****' from the pre-AVP movie stuff, i hadnt got the internet when AVP was in production an so had no access to stuff like that!(interveiws, interveiws with directors, etc) so am unaware of stuff that was said!

its hard but we should just reserve judgment until we have seen the film.

mind you then i suppose we will get the thred thats says.

" i told you this would happen " or " told ya months ago it was ***** "

i suppose this is what happens when a group of people who love a certain thing share thoughts though :)

at least let us try not to bitch at each other hehe ( just maybe the film in 11mths ) :p

yeah i agree - i dont want to upset anyone, like you said lets try an reserve judgement an look forward to it! :)

As I mentioned earlier, I loved the Predator and Aliens films, and I will go see AVP2 regardless. Alot of people didn't like P2, but I did. It, like AVP, tried to extend the story and visuals in a different direction. It confirmed that not all Predators were alike, or even hunted with the same rules! Of course, the ending presented more Predators and the idea of hunting Aliens.

AVP was no exception. Anderson made the Predators like the comic to HONOR the comic. If there are other "geeks" out there, they will remember that AVP has been running around the concept table for years and FINALLY came out after the continuing success of the comic series (which no one complained about the design in that). The football armor was there not to redesign or compete with the other movies, but a storyline fact that a.) aliens have acid for blood, so the bulkier armor was for protection against that and b.) the hunters were teenagers, and not as skilled as the hunters we have seen, hence more protection until they got better. Though not a hit with the "true" fans, it made enough profit to warrant a sequel and possible future projects for Aliens and Predator movies, and kept the Predator lore alive.

Not unlike Star Wars, Predator has been kept afloat through comics, PC games, viedogames, toy art, collectibles, etc. from fan support only. Hollywood has run out of ideas, and it is only through fan support that these movies get made at all, good or bad. I would hate to have a franchise get dropped for lack of enthusiasm for a project by people who are criticizing the work that they are doing for our benefit...

i dont think im a hard to please fan.....just there are "parts" in AVP that honestly make me wonder "who thought this was a good idea?"

course there are parts like that in alot of movies i love........and at the end of the day i still love them..

i just feel bitter sometimes cuz i have scars expression to the queen at the end of the movie tattooed in my mind, and its just plain stupid..lol...

yeah there are parts of AVP that were good, and like kurtweinreich said at least AVP kept the pred scene going! an theres been some awesome merchandise out because of it!(which should happen for AVP2 aswell)

also colin strause said in one of the interveiws - 'predator fans wont be dissapointed' which MUST be a good sign! at least that shows that hopefully the preds wont be made to look weak (as in the first)

basically AVP sucked in alot of ways but some bits were good-and im really looking forward to AVP2! (alot)!!

I didn't mean to upset anyone; if I did it was unnintentional. Sometimes it is hard, or not possible at all to convey certain emotions through a computer screen. I know some of the stuff I posted earlier was unfairly harsh, but I (for some reason or another) am very passionate about the character- as I'd hope the directors of the new film would be with AVP II or any project their working on. From the looks of it, the Strause brothers might turn out like Asia's Pang brothers. They've made some of the best movies I've ever seen.

Thinking about it now, I guess the only thing we can do is just sit back and let them do their thing.

BUST IT FELLAS!!

I never thought of myself as a plum... :) But the alien still looks like 5hit. They want to go back to the original..Hire Stan and Gieger. Or at least Steve Wang. I'm just a plum and I thought of this all by myself.

in response to that- in one of the interveiws they said theres alot of different creatures in this film so you never know they might have quite a few alien designs

I have been trying my best to ignore this thread for the simple fact that I had predicted the replies in my mind, and the predictions were against what I truly feel. Since I am going by experience on this forum...

Much to my wonderful surprise that some of you did a full 360 to what I thought was going to be the majority of the replies here.

A big thanks to drgnfyre4, celtic yautja, kurtweinreich and others who have similar views as them (sorry if I forgot any!). They said what I had in the back of my mind if I was ever to grow the courage needed to reply to this thread, so thank you all for speaking your mind and saying your bit. I agree 100% all the way.

As you all were. :)

in replie,i dont care if you dont like big-red (it makes no difference to me whatsoever) and i dont feel irked when folks say they dont like the character.(strange.....ive never been bothered personally bout other folks reactions to the suit?)
i bought the big red suit because "i" like it.the prefences of others are their own opinions only (and they are entitled to their opinions, and i welcome their comments good or bad)
i have watched from afar for most of my life, the talented artists who make these monsters...........i have seen most of the harryhausen films, the classic monsters, and suchlike.when i was a lil boy,i loved to see "making of" type special television programs.
i love monsters......pumpkinhead,aliens,hellraiser,freddy,jason..you name it,im into it..........
the guys who make these creatures are my heros.i look at their work with a sense of awe,and i look at photos of the artists doing what they do,and i cant help but feel thrilled to see the raw talent these folks posess.
in short, "im a fan"..........
i'll leave the critiques to the critics.
im grateful that "they" are doing another one.i now have another great film to look forward too, costumes to collect, toys, books, and a ton
of other "toys" to keep my hobby alive.
(yep,im a toy geek...lol....and proud of it)
stay cool guys & gals......."peace"
