My latest PADD cost me $21.50... I found this "Portable Transparency Viewer" on eBay for $5 (and $16.51 S/H, but I knew that going in).... A little paint and a screen and voila! Did I mention it lights up? :lol

===== ORIGINAL POST FOLLOWS =====

Hello All,

Here are some pics of my first and second PADDs I have finally completed. I want to thank the following for making it all possible:

JoeRalat for the PADD templates and plexi (creating my own of those is next on my PADD projects).

SurferGeek for the great screen grab!

MattMunson for his tutorials and the pointers he gave me. (If Chuck Norris ever ran for President, Matt would make an excellant VP). I've known Matt for 6+ years - he's a great guy indeed.

And Sulla for the other pointers and patience in everything I asked (Andy, your 16x36 Defiant is done and will ship Friday - I know you will love it!).

(I still need the shiny strip but I had to post anyways...)

Nicely done. What color/brand of paint did you use? It looks very dark and sparkly.

Re: First (and second) PADD Repro EVER!

Thanks! I used Plasticote Dupli-color DSGM347. Sparkely indeed. :)

Re: First (and second) PADD Repro EVER!

Well, I'm glad to see the Plastikote buy-out only changed the GM-15 equivalent color to the point of unrecognizability :lol

Re: First (and second) PADD Repro EVER!

Looking sharp! Great job on those builds.

Andy,

Thanks! Where did you get the shiny sparkle tape that I'm missing?

Re: First (and second) PADD Repro EVER!

They came our great! Little departure on the Sector 001 PADD seen in DS9 but it works. Great job!

Shinny sparkle tape? Well, I use chrome pin striping, if that's what you are after. :) You can find it at most auto parts stores, though the ones local to me are starting to shrink their shelf inventory of the stuff.

If you are talking about the reflective tape that is kinda' holographic when light shines on it, I got some here on ebay:

Thanks, and now I'm on my quest for holographic tape. :lol

Hey nice padds!

DSGM-347 is not accurate to the screenused color. Comparing a screenused boomerang to Duplicolor colors I've found that DSGM-478 Med. Marblehead is an exact match.

I was pretty sure that the paint code of the original GM color used for the trek props cross over to DSGM-347, per manufacturer published documents. Though I don't have a copy of siad doc.

Though I have used DSGM-478 in a pinch before.

Re: First (and second) PADD Repro EVER!

I guess what the question boils down to is...

Was every Starfleet PADD from Encounter at Farpoint to Nemesis painted using the exact same color?

No... there were quite a few different colors used from TNG to the latest movies, some were design changes some were due to availability.

Re: First (and second) PADD Repro EVER!

That may be the case however based on direct examination the 478 matches more closely than 347.

Re: First (and second) PADD Repro EVER!

Cool, thanks for the first-hand, Tripper. Personal experience is always a thing to reckon with and is welcome. I'll have to play around with the colors.
