Lurking over, making this my first ever post
Decided to build a pistol to go with the Repcom armour I am currently building. This is how the story went (cut and pasted from posts on another board);
Decided to start making my own pistol, with hollow and removable section to allow electronics
It will be cast in several parts;
handle and barrel (hollow), clear mid section to allow illumination
sight seperate (to allow "hollow" detail)
part above handle (not sure what you call it) removable for battery change etc.
Need to complete detail on grip and the bit above the handle.
Almost done;
needs a bit more clean up before casting the parts
Very poor quality video (click to play), finished item will have a longer coil of EL inside, and will not be blue
In order to make the barrel hollow I cast a pre-assembled piece of pipe (with the opaque/frosted perspex section) in the mold.
and here's the result, I didn't mix quite enough resin, so had to make up extra quick, hence the two-tone dappled grip.
I was a bit concerned that I hadn't optimally engineered the mold, but the barrel is totally hollow as is the rear upper section, loads of room for electronics
final raw parts, unsanded and unpainted
finally a couple of shots of assembled pistol (again naked resin)
and finally illuminated (looks the dogs danglies in a darkened room).
Will probably paint the clear section with a clear matte paint to increase the opacity.
